Has anyone used this MP3 player? If so, how hard was it to install and how much music can you install on the chip? The part # is  76376-04 from H-D.
Thanks

A freind put one on his road glide and loves it the only problem he has is that when you turn it off in the middle of a song it starts over from the beginning.

I added one to my 05 SEEG,,,easy install.  It comes with a 64 mg chip and that was good for 14 to 17 songs depending on the music.  Takes only seconds to load one song and its easy as pie to do.    I considered getting a one gig chip but ended up going with a 512 chip, as i was thinking a gig chip would have way too much music I couldnt find.   I had the 12 disc CD changer in my 02 Ultra and though nice, it destroyed the space in the tour pack.   I like this MUCH better.

Sheesh guys, no photos of the MP3 player installed?  How did you run the wiring?  Internal or external?  Where did you plug into the stock head unit?  Aux jack or factory wiring harness?

Installed one on my 05 SEEG it looks great and works awesome,as far as wiring I ran the wiring into covered steel braided line and routed it though the faring and then pulled the radio out and put that wire though for the stereo input. Sure wish HD would have put a plug on the back of radio so I wouldn't have that wire coming out in front of radio, oh well sure looks awesome on the bike.

I spoke with Harley customer service today about the SD card for the HA90 MP3 player.  I had called several Harley dealers and they all said the same thing.  They didn't know how big of a card that could be used.  They all said that it would accept a SD 64 mb card just like it says on the info sheet.
Harley customer service called me back later in the day and told me, "The HA90 will accept any SD card made.  If they make a 2 gig SD card it will also work in the player",  that is per the manufacturer.  I will order mine today.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Here is a few pics of mine. I ran my wires along the brake line and into the fairing. I ran the mini plug from inside the fairing and under the radio. Right now I'm using a 256 meg SD card. It holds about 55 songs.

mw, THANK YOU for the photos!  They are excellent!  Good idea regarding the wires.  I was wondering if somehow there was a way to run them internally in the bars or just what would be the best solution.  I think utilizing the brake line is a great idea.  I'll be ordering one of these dudes tomorrow.  Thanks again!

The mP3 players are great!! I thought about drilling a hole in my bars too... then I thought there is already wires in there so I didn't even take the chance. I got a 512MB chip in mine it holds 128 songs which equals 8 hours & 37 mins of playing time. Nice for just about any day trip. As far as wiring, same as the others ran them along the brake lines and under the radio, pretty straight forward installation.

2lane, here are a couple of shots of the mounting bracket.  I'm not sure you could remove much material because of the way it's made on the inside (second photo).

Yo,
I understand about the mini-plug coming out from under the radio, but how did you run the wire along the brake line?

On the MP3 and wma subject, yes you can get more songs on your card if they are wma fomat.  If your songs are mp3 format there are programs you can get and it will convert your mp3's to wma's.  That way you get more songs on your cards. Let's Roll

Have you noticed a significant worsening of sound quality of the WMA (64kbs) compared to MP3(128kbs)?  There should be but I am not sure one could detect it at all on a bike (called The Rinehart Factor [smiley=laugh.gif]), so may not matter.  Plan to road test a comparison myself soon.  Have always used MP3, may have to give WMA a try.

You guys that installed these yourselves, did you leave the top hole open on the housing that the player mounts to?  The bottom one gets plugged with a nice seal that's part of the wiring harness and then there's a nice gasket that seals the player itself to the housing.  I can't figure out why this extra hole is here or why you'd want to leave it open to the atmosphere.  I'm thinking about sliconing it closed.  Thoughts, anyone?

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do.  I've got a tube of clear silicone that should do the trick.  Will give 2lane a chance to see what he comes up with first, though.

Sounds like you're set, 103.

Have any of you guys switched the player from B(default) to A to make it louder?  I notice it's not as loud as my CD player at the same volume.  Read in the manual you can jack up the volume by changing the A/B switch on the back of the housing....wonder if this degrades sounds quality?

Just curious, anybody looked into relocating the auxillary port so a cable coming out of the inner fairing under the radio isn't necessary? I haven't pulled the radio so I don't know if the aux port is on a circuit board or not.  My thought was to pull the radio, take the housing off, drill a hole big enough to relocat the aux port out the back of the radio or side and then use a black dummy plug on the front of the radio.  If it can't be done, I'll do the jack out the front, but it seems kinda ghetto for the quality of the bike and all to wire it that way.

Thoughts?

Say, anyone else using a 1GB card?  I had to buy a different card reader to use one.  The one supplied with the mp3 player did not work with the larger card for some reason.  Worked fine with the 64MB card that came with the player, but not the 1GB one I bought.  What's up with that? I guess I wasn't clear enough, sorry.  The player works just fine with the 1GB card.  Only thing is I had to buy a different card reader to get the files onto the larger card from my PC.  Using the card reader supplied with the player (and the 1GB card), I got some sort of error message.  I'm running XP and there were supposedly no drivers required to use that reader with that operating system. Anybody had any failures on these things?  After blowing 4 fuses, and checking and re-checking to see if HD screwed up the electrical diagrams (they didn't), I swapped the unit as I had bought one for my ultra too.  Problem solved.  Works like a top.  Love the sound.  Switched from B to A as per some earlier feedback on this.   Agreed, HA90 was much softer than FM.

A tip for anybody looking to install one of these.  Hold off putting on the chrome trim on the radio until after!  Made getting that plug to the aux port a challenge as the radio doesn't come out the back without taking that trim ring back off.

Love the sound quality of this baby.   Paired with the hogtunes, it's a great setup.

Yo 103 or someone,
Technically challenged, it seems.  Can you tell me what steps you are doing to export a playlist to your MP3 player from iTunes....can't seem to figure it out.  Store all my MP3's there, can see a way to burn a disc, can drag and drop individual songs to the MP3 as a portable drive in Windows Explorer but don't see how to transfer a bunch of songs all at one click in a set order like a playlist.

thanks,

Then, go into the playlist where you have the mp3's you want to transfer to the SD card and highlight each individual song in the playlist.

They will then begin transferring one at a time to the SD card in the order that you had them specified in your iTunes playlist.

Once you're done, you can click on the drive to see that all the files are there . . .

Elvis,

An alternative is:

1.  get into the SD drive in Windows explorer.
2.  go to the task bar and click on Itunes.
3.  Click on the playlist you want to copy.
4.  Go to edit on the tool bar at the top and click select all and then click copy.
5.  Go to the bottom task bar and click on explorer and go to the SD drive and then go back to the top and click edit/paste.

Does the same as the drag and drop but you don't have to fuss with sizing windows.

Lets hope not I'm just planning on opening up just the part that interfers with where the handle bars go to 1 1/4 in probably about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch is all that needs mods or so I think.  Time will tell,  like I said 8 bucks is cheap.

Didn't run through the bars, followed the brake line into the fairing.  Came out under the radio with the AUX plug.  Only tip is change the switch on the back before mounting from B to A...default B setting is not loud enough.  Although somewhat primitive for an MP3 player compared to an iPod or others, it has still been a great addition to the bike.  I hardly use my CD player anymore.

Stupid question but gotta ask - the butt splice (black wire coming out of MP3 player) to the black/green stripe wire in the Interconnect harness - do you splice the MP3 player black wire to the black/green stripe wire in the bundle of wires or to the black/green stripe wire that goes into the connector?

Just finished my install today. I spliced or tapped the black wire into the black/green from the radio harness. It still needs to connect ot the radio as well.

Question for those who have these already. When the bike is turned off then back on again do you have turn turn the MP3 player on again? It seems like it should come on if it was left on when the bike was turned off?

Yep, what Elvis said.  In fact, it will also turn itself off after it's been in the stop mode for a few minutes.  Kind of annoying, but with it being a thumbs reach away, it's not to big a deal to wake it up again.

I use it.
Go to:

Then select MP3

Installed one on my 05 SEEG it looks great and works awesome,as far as wiring I ran the wiring into covered steel braided line and routed it though the faring and then pulled the radio out and put that wire though for the stereo input. Sure wish HD would have put a plug on the back of radio so I wouldn't have that wire coming out in front of radio, oh well sure looks awesome on the bike.

DoubleD, Where did you get the braided line?

I just bought 2  512 mb cards from Crucial.com.. Came in less than 2 days. 89.00 total. These guys sell the best PC memory on the market. I figured their cards would be of equal quality.

Hooked up my MP3 player Saturday. Noticed that the Aux Input Jack was kinda loose. Now it is really loose. Plug barely makes a connection. Can't hear all of the music on a track. Gotta take it to the shop to get my radio sent off for repair. I haven't even had the bike a week and already...................................................................!

You might try giving Radio Sound a call.  They're info is at:

http://www.radiosound.com/

They're the OE for the radios.  Others have had experiences where a heads up to them followed by a phone call from the dealer has gotten a replacement radio on the way to the dealer before the old one got pulled.  If they're willing at least you'd only be down for the time of a single service call rather than waiting for a radio to go back and forth.

Good luck!

My new radio is here. Get it installed on Monday when my bike is in for the 1K service. As well as replacing the horn that works sometime.
