seat wear on 2007 SEUC
« on: September 01, 2007, 12:05:46 PM »

I noticed my seat is wearing at the seams on the drives portion of the seat. Looks like the
the material is delaminating. This is only on the raised portion of the seam?  I know these seats aren't leather but this is a first for me to see this wear. I plan to have my dealer look at it when I take it in for my 5000 mile service this month.

Just wondering if any one else has had any issues?

Yeah, I'm seeing some wear on mine also - 18.5k.  Doubt the moco will do anything about it but let us know what you find out.

I too had the wear marks. On the stiching where my thighs hit and on the back. I took it to the dealer and they said it would not be covered under warranty. SO... I bought the Corbin.

I was told that the seats on the SE's were leather...

They are, according to the brochures and web site.  They don't go into much detail, however, such as which parts are leather and which are pseudo leather.

The "faux-ostrich" is a mid-quality leather, but the rest is faux leather!

:worthless:  (I figured someone will say this sooner or later)

Here is my post with pictures from June 30th of the wear on  my 'pleather' seat.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=14722.msg232508#msg232508

The dealer just north of New Orleans, in Slidell, is replacing the seat at no cost.
I didn't buy my SEUC from them. They are also replacing my clutch line (chafing on the motor) & headset switch (doesn't work).
I guess they had to send pictures to HD corporate after trying the first time to help me.

It took them a couple times,  but finally got HD to do it under w**rnty.

Yup. Mine has started (4900 miles) and my friend's too - similar mileage but his seat is much worse.

Since the seat on the 2006 SEUC is the same as the 2007, I have the same condition.  Don't consider it a problem though.  It adds character........and Glare Leather & Vinyl protectant makes it look great.  I have noticed that the older the bike gets, the more it sucks up the Glare Leather and Vinyl Protectant tho.  I can wipe down my seat on any given evening, and the next morning, it looks dry again.  Re-apply, and by that evening, it looks dry again.  Back rest, and Tour Pak don't do that.

Yep, I have the same problem on my 2007 SEUC with 4,000 miles. I plan to mention it to the dealer at the 5,000 check.

The entire seating surfaces are made of genuine leather.  Not just the part that's embossed to look like osterich.

Can't say I've noticed that, though the one on my 06 did get white mildew grow on it if I put it away damp (despite having the leather treatment on). Washed off though.

I don't think it was mildew on mine, but during my first trip to Kansas in June, I noticed the stitching turning gray.  The bike was washed twice during that jaunt, and after the last wash.......it was really noticeable.  When I got home, I washed it again, dried it, and applied more Glare Leather/Vinyl Protectant.  Good as new.

Sounds like it might have been - mine was worst around the seams.

You're right about it being all leather, but it's so thin the stitches pull like vinyl, and I'm not very heavy.

Got my seat replaced yesterday at no cost due to the pre-mature wear.  :)

Had to break it in today with a hundred miles or so in high 90's heat during a 9-11 poker run held by the local Red Knights MC (firefighters).
