New Camcorder
« on: September 04, 2007, 03:23:07 PM »

I've been watching Sfarson and other's videos of their rides and thought it was such a cool idea that I took the plunge and bought a camcorder, of course after consulting privately with the experts here on the site.  I have a 5 inch RAM mount, so will put it on the right side handlebar when I decide to record and shoot from there.  Diva can shoot from the back of the bike as well.  It will also take a half decent still photo (4x6).  I've got a high end digital still camera, so was not concerned about the camcorder's ability to capture still shots.

One thing I was told is that the mini tapes work best on the bike or other high vibration applications.  The hard drive models, or DVD R/W models, so not do well on the bike or similar situations.  Plus, the tapes are cheap, and hold up to an hour each.

Here's the camera:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/475501-REG/Sony_DCRHC48_DCR_HC48_Mini_DV_Camcorder.html   With specs.

I also got the wide angle lens adapter, Hoya coated UV filter, B+W Polarizer, and LowePro bag.  If I can do some tests, I will bring it to HS and attempt to record our ride on Friday to Mt Magazine.  I can't promise how good it will be, but I'll try.

So smile, you'll be on Candid Camera!!!

This model has built in anti vibration firmware...a lot of the newer mini-cams do, from what I read.  On my still camera, I have the vibration reducing lenses, and they work great, allowing hand held photos at much slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible.

Well, Q...didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings with the REAL numbers, so erred on the short side... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I think the vids will be a blast, if my retarded a$$ can figure out the whole editing thing once I get the shots...

the image stabilization is definately important. I was thinking that perhaps you would also get a rubber grommet (anti-vibration isolators or whatever they call them) that would be placed between the camera and the mounting hardware. Anyway, be interested to hear how the video comes out.

I think we just found out what (else) TC got for his birthday :2vrolijk_21: .

Yep...been wanting one of these things for several years, but was waiting on the right combo of technology/price.  See, at the GTG's, I can get video, and SOUND...like when somebody has too many  :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: I'll capture the kneeling/hurling on both video and stereo sound....

Seriously, it should be a nice addtion to the still camera in certain situations, and the things are tiny now, so Diva won't have to give up much space... ;)

Sounds like Terry's planning on doing some blackmailing! ::)

I'm glad I'm like an open book. Won't have anything to be surprised at with me. Been there, done that, and probably will do it again! ;D
