How about a nice old "grease gun" mounted through the fairing for traffic abatement?

...S&W stainless 38 special. When stopped always pass the attitude test first and then declare it. Been through this a few times and have never had a problem.

Carry???? Moi? I'm from Kentucky.

My last purchase was a S&W Stainless hammerless 38 Special with a 1" barrel. The laser sight was an additional $200 or so. This weapon is designed for close range...REAL close..like 2'. Stick it in somebody's gut and align the laser dot? Maybe for a 357 with a 6" barrel.

Dood,

Below is an email I received today from a gentleman who teaches the Utah permit class here in Northern Virginia.  His name is Bruce Jackson and his email address is 4utahpermits@gmail.com.

I have sent him my name and will sign up if the date works.

Doug

------------------------------------------------------------------
OK Folks!

I now have a blank slate and am looking for interested parties who wish to take either the VA class, the Utah class, or both.

Even if you have given me your name before, please resubmit it.
(Also, it would be nice if you would also tell me what classes you would like to take)

As of the writing of this message I have no names for either class.

So if you want a class sooner, forward this to your friends and family.

Cost of each class will be $75 if you prepay, $100 if you don't.
(sorry, but past no-shows have forced me to do this)

Once I have enough interested people I will pick a date and ask all those who have expressed an interest if they want to attend.  After a couple of days I will open the enrolment to the general public.

Class will be held in the North Stafford area (I-95 exit 143).

If you have any questions please feel free to email me.  And please include your telephone number as some answers are easier to talk about then to type.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Let me know when you get a date in the interim I'm going to check the list to see if there is a instructor closer also. I've attached a list of instructors by state below. Anyone interested in the requirements to get a Utah CWP can look here - Utah Concealed Weapon Permit.

Whenever the law shouts..."DROP YOUR WEAPONS" around here, I can usually drink a cold beer before they all hit the ground.

It's going to be in trouble. :nervous: According to your last post your arsenal has increased since you were killing/shooting washing machines. ;D

Yes.  Always have.  Had a NC concealed carry since they started issueing them.  Lots of good advice in this thread, but it's whatever works for me....always at least one gun......depending on what I'm wearing ......  of different sizes/weight/calibers.  Most are autos....one small wheel gun.  The important thing I think, is to have one if you really need it.  No matter the caliber....like someone said: the larger the better if you will carry it, but smaller if necessary to carry it.  As in a jacket pocket....it's got to be light enough to not sag the jacket or it doesn't work.  Then you're looking at holsters.....most are not comfortable as those who wear them all the time will tell you.  So.....what ever works for you.  :jack: Har!  :drink: spyder

Proably as good a place as any for this. I've been roaming around the internet trying to get a sense of the value of the Model 70 Winchester I mentioned before. I hate to think of it, but if it got stolen or something I'd need to prove to my insurance company what the value was. Seems like the prices are all over the lot. I'm seeing anywhere from $600 to $1,600. What do you folks think ?

My Dad bought it new in 1950, so it's a pre-64 as they say Winchester Model 70-270 Super Grade. 80% of new condition. Blueing is solid, stock is excellent, bore is clean , nice Bausch and Lomb scope. Has been kept cleaned and oiled.

If the gun was stolen or destroyed, your insurance company would not put much stock on our opinions here.

If the gun has any antique or collector value (and it sounds like it definitely does), you need to get an appraisal from someone qualified to do this type of appraisal (gun dealer most likely).  You then need to contact your insurance agent and tell him that you need to add "scheduled" coverage for this gun (he will know what "scheduled" coverage means).

Without "scheduled" coverage for this gun, your insurance company will not be obligated to pay the antique or collector value of your gun.  Most home insurance policies will only cover a specific amount for theft of guns (usually $1000 to $3000 - that's total for all guns not each gun).  If you are like me, the base amount of coverage on most home insurance policies will not go very far toward covering all of your guns.

This would also be a good time to talk with your agent about other items that may require scheduled or appraised coverage (jewelry, furs, antique items, baseball cards,...).
