No need for a front security gate, just get one of these.

I can't find one of these at my local gun dealer, but they DO look pretty cool.  I'm wondering if I could pull it behind my bike on a small trailer.  -Perfect for the Sturgis Rally! :huepfenjump3:

thankfully I have never been pulled over while carrying, but my instructions from an NRA instructor friend were always to roll down the window, both hands on the wheel if in my truck...and tell the officer that you have a loaded gun AND a permit.

Results from two friends are that it ends up with you on the hood, weapon in an unloaded state and an hour or more fro the stop.  Guess that depends on the cop.

On the MC I think I would do the same - short of rolling the windows down.  Mine are stuck open, and he would have a hard time putting me on the hood.
I have been stopped once carrying in the car.  I let the officer know, as was required by law of the state. It was a short painless stop.  Took no longer than any other stop, and officer let me out of the speeding ticket.

If not asked, don't tell............Especially about weapons in the car.
Last time I was detained, by the time the leo got close, the truck was off, windows down and papers at the ready...Never was asked about the weapon(s) so I did not volunteer anything...

I got a warning......A good ol Okeechobee County Sherriff motor officer.

That is against the law in many states.
For example it is the law you inform the officer you have a loaded weapon in Lousiana, SC, NC, TX.  Failure to do so can result in the loss of your permit.

TN, AL, GA, MS do not require you to notify the officer.

If your going to carry I feel it is a must that you know the laws of the states you are in.

Found a new "gota have now", Kimber Ultra Carry Crimson II. Anyone know of a good reason for me to stop this impulse?

I have an Kimber Ultra CDP II, it is my favorite hand gun.

I say get it.

Can't say if it's the law to advise, but I do know that when they run your Va. DL it will show that you have CC permit. I'd much rather tell them ahead of time (and this was actually taught in one of my classes to receive a CC permit) then have them draw down on me to find out if/where I'm carrying. I've looked at the business end of a pistol before, and no matter what caliber it is when it's pointed at you it looks live a stove pipe w/a handle. :shocked2:

It would be interesting to know if out of State licenses tell them that you have a CCP also.  I usually do follow the rules (in state), but unsure what to do out of state as the rules change so frequently it's hard to 'keep up'.  Those seat-belt/DUI stops are usually so quick that I just hand them my license and move on as soon as they let me.  :-X har!  spyder

I would check your state laws if it's not associated with it in your home state then more then likely it will not be in Va. It's a state mandate here that ties the two together.

....
It passed through the Senate (SB1035) yesterday (24-Y 16-N) and is still in the House (HB1821). Here is a good link to keep abreast of legislation concerning gun laws in Va - VCDL 2009 Legislation Tracking Tool.

Check your concealled carry permit and if it has the same number as your state driver's license number it is safe to assume that it will show up when they run your driver's license through the system regardless of which state you are in.  That is how it works in TN.  It is only a suggestion to inform a law inforcement officer about your carry permit and not a requirement.  Personally, the only time I offered the information without being asked alarmed the cop who stopped me and seemed to make him and me nervous.  Now I only say so if asked.  Haven't been asked though.

It IS a requirement in NC and failure to inform a LEO when approached is a misdemeanor w/ $100 fine for 1st offense w/ 2nd offense becoming more severe and loss of CCP.  Where it becomes less clear is in reciprocal states as the rules seem to change and it's hard to 'keep up'.  Big differences between various states in how you must act while carrying concealed.   spyder
