That's exactly why I don't inform unless I'm asked.  Similar thing happened to me but without the ticket, just got a funny look.

Got stopped in the cage in Lousiana last month, 78 in a 55.  LA is a you must inform the officer state.  I gave him my DL and CCW and then he asked for the registration and insurance, so I said its in the glove box with my loaded pistol. 

The young officer, 26 or so was real good about it.  He saw my USN Ret tags, thanked me for my service, and let me go with a warning....

Don't get much of that in a military town, since most of the populace is either active duty.........and in Huntsville, retired military.  Heck, better than half the police force is retired military, so to them.........I'm just another blue ID card holder.

I was due anyway........Been about three years.   ;)

In a Navy town you never want the LEO to know you have anything to do with the Military....

The hell with the left saddlebag--  mount that puppy right over the tank!   Your aim will be better, less colateral that way!  You'll also have BOTH bags for ammo!

-Just got a package delivered from UPS.  My Pea shooter finally arrived!  (LCP shooter that is).
It took only a week and a day from the time I sent it off. 
-Got the Ruger hat and extra mag.  And as reported the finger extentions are back ordered.  I bought my gun the 4th of December in the year of our Lord 2000 and eight. 
Anyway, now all I need to do is shoot the thing to make sure it's reliable.  And, of course, sight in the laser.  7 yards should be about right.   :huepfenjump3:
