I'm sure you all have seen this, but it is always a good refresher.

Porthole -- thanks for posting that link.  I hadn't seen it before, and she does nail it in the end.  My wife and I were at the firing range this weekend competing against each other as to who could get the most in the target chest area.  She beat me by 1 round.

Absolutely!  Mostly when I have my wife with me.  (357 SigSauer, maybe a .38 police, maybe my M-1 carbine with 30 round clips if I'm in Arizona!

Know your state to state rules....if you have a CWP, it helps, but DO NOT ever show.  You do not have to reveal or volunteer the fact that you carry to law enforcement in most states.  Trouble is, up here in Montana, although we don't have a lot of highway trouble, you can't carry into Canada, and for
those of us who used to go to Mexico, can't carry there either.  So, in going state to state to those countries, you've got to leave it home or with a friend in a border state.

I received this notice via email from a friend this morning.  Later this morning, a representative from the gun shop where I bought my PPK/S called me.  I have one of the defective weapons.  Asked me to bring it in, and the shop would get it modified IAW this recall.  Now THAT is great service for a weapon I've had for 6 years.  I've pumped about 5000 rounds through it and never had a problem, but if they say it isn't safe........I'll send it back.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE - February 20, 2009

PRODUCT:

Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols

DESCRIPTION OF THE HAZARD:

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist in certain PPK and PPK/S pistols which may permit a round to be discharged without the trigger being pulled. When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson's Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT INVOLVED:

This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002, until February 3, 2009. The Serial Numbers of the pistol subject to this recall are as follows:

0000BAD - 9999BAD
0000LTD - 0499LTD

0000BAK - 9999BAK
0026REP - 0219REP
0000BAL - 5313BAL
0000BAM - 1320BAM

REMEDY/ACTION TO BE TAKEN:

STOP USING YOUR PISTOL AND RETURN IT TO SMITH & WESSON AT ONCE.
Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential for causing injury, and we ask that you stop using your pistol immediately.

To facilitate the repair of your pistol, please contact Smith & Wesson's customer service department to receive instructions for the return of your pistol to Smith & Wesson.

When you return your pistol to Smith & Wesson, we will replace the existing hammer block feature with a new part at no cost to you. Your firearm will be returned as quickly and efficiently as possible.

VERIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION:

When your pistol is returned, you should note a punch dot which appears at the back of the frame. See the photograph below.

Got an inexpensive .38 Derringer that fits in the lower fairing glove box.  Wife has a deputy badge with right to conceal and carry.  Guess that covers the bases.

I saw a mint 5" Kimber Raptor that only had a couple of clips through it today for $850. Unfortunately, it's sitting on a non-secured 5 day layaway, so I gotta pray the guy backs out! I just love the detail on that thing. Just wish it had a lower rail.

I picked up a couple more HK's recently - HK P30 for my wife, yeah, that's it and HK P30L for me. Went to the range today and both weapons performed flawlessly, both extremely accurate and it is great to have 15 rounds capacity in these pistols.
I also introduced my brother to my HK45 and I can't say enough positive things about that gun, it is simply awesome. I expect my brother to be picking up one of the HK45's immediately and probably a HK P30 after that.
I still like to carry my Kimbers when I have the need for more discreet conceal carry but I prefer the HK45 hands down for my daily carry, it is more accurate, has less recoil, carries 10 rounds and is a most excellent pistol.
My 11 year old daughter was shooting her new Kimber K-22 with a Leupold Vari-X II 4x12 for the first time today and she shot a jagged hole in the target from 25 yards, she was loving life today! We were on the pistol range so 75 feet is the furthest away that we had the opportunity to shoot the Kimber. We plan on taking it to the rifle range in the next week or two and testing accuracy out at 100-200 yards.
