will TC 88 Jugs fit on TC 96?
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:06:32 PM »

Got a friend with some crazy idea and a question. will the TC 88 Jugs fit on the TC 96? He was wondering if the 95inch big bore kit for the TC 88 (Jugs will fit on a TC96)?

I see where your friend is headed and he might be right. Seems like he'd end up with a 103 since the difference between an 88 and a 96 is in the stroke not the bore. Sounds like it could work. Check the P/N of the 103 kit cylinders for the 96" in the SE Catalogue and you should be able to match things up.

seven_77,

See attachment, copied from the '07 SE Pro catalog.

Assuming your friend is thinking about a 103, yes, the cylinders will fit.  That is the method used in the H-D kit for the TC96/TC103.  The 3.875" bore cylinders are the same as those previously used to increase the displacement of a TC88 to a TC95.  Of course, you don't have to buy new cylinders to do this, you can just overbore the stock cylinders.  The "Big Bore Cylinders" are just overbored stock cylinders, nothing special about them.

Another question, one that I can't answer, concerns the pistons.

The cylinders will work but the pistons will not. Relative to the piston crown, the wrist pin location in the 96” piston is higher than 88” or 95” machines with the 4.0” stroke.

The 103” piston in a 2007 and up TC is different than the piston in the earlier 103 machines. The wrist pin area of the connecting rod and piston have both been redesigned to fit together differently than the earlier parts. The early piston may physically fit on the late rod, but that is not the intended application. The early connecting rod will not work at all with the late piston.

ok with that being said...you should be able to put the jugs from a TC96 on the TC88. but this will not increase displacement because it should be the same bore, because the TC96 is a stroked TC88 correct??

Correct.  Listed below are the various combinations:

TC88   >  3.750" Bore,  4.000" Stroke,   88.357 in3
TC95   >  3.875" Bore,  4.000" Stroke,   94.346 in3
TC96   >  3.750" Bore,  4.375" Stroke,   96.641 in3
TC103 >  3.875" Bore,  4.375" Stroke,  103.191 in3
TC110 >  4.000" Bore,  4.375" Stroke,  109.956 in3
TC113 >  4.060" Bore,  4.375" Stroke,  113.279 in3

Jerry

Wonder if anyone has tried the 4.000" bore with the 4.000" crank, 100.531 in3 ?  I like the idea of a "square" engine.

Which is what ?  A 110 ?  REVTECH hasn't exactly become billionairs selling them and nobody else markets one do they ? Must be a reason for that.

I believe we discussed the issue. The jugs should work, but not the pistons was the answer was it not ?

Most threads tend to roam around getting off track a bit. HOWEVER, there's often some good info that comes out of that roaming and rambling. Seems like this thread was kinda of going in the direction of " what's the best configuration of bore and stroke "   That's not a bad thing is it ?

Oh that’s just my dyslexia flaring up again. My eyes read SEFLHTCU2’s remarks ok but my brain understood them as questioning why a person would want to put TC88 cylinders on a TC96. I read it as SE having missed the big bore piece of the original post.

The appropriate response to SEFLHTCU2’s question is; that is correct.

Don’t mind me folks; carry on with your roaming.
