Radio problem
« on: November 01, 2007, 07:13:04 PM »

Hey guys,

Ive read about lots of assorted radio issues on here, but I haven't ran across this one yet.
MY 07 Jestor radio will just decide not to function most of the time when I start the bike. It is like I have hit the mute button. Everything functions as far as the displays and modes...just no sound. When it does decide to work , it will work for a while and then again, NO SOUND! I phoned the dealer and they said they have never had one with this symptom but indicated it might be the radio itself. If anyone has some tips, I would prefer to work on the problem myself as opposed to my bike being ripped appart at the dealer. I have installed the H-W system and has worked great all summer. I opened the fairing back up and rewired back to stock and still has the problem. I really don't want the dealer screwing around with the H-W system or blaming it for being the problem, because I have proved to myself it isn't at fault.
Any suggestions??

Sometimes it is caused by a weak battery.  If not, you will get a refurbished unit as a swap out at the dealer.  It is not really a big deal to pull the fairing and get it done.  The bike should still be under warranty...good luck

Does it play through a headset with the speaker switch in the forward position?  IF theres a bad speaker switch or bad connection to said switch it could cause this issue.

Not quite sure what you mean there. It is not in CB mode? I done use the CB...I have my tour pack quick detach and the harness to the rear removed. I also removed the console and replaced it with the long 04 CVO console getting rid of the head set hook up. Now that harness is under the console bundled up. Is there a chance maybe something is touching under the console muting the sound out???

If the CB is turned on, it will be scanning for signals and will mute the radio audio until a signal no longer is there. If the CB output is turned down, you will hear silence until the CB signal is gone. This may seem like the radio(audio) is not working.

Not sure how else to describe this.......

Make sure the "CB" icon is not showing.

Defiantly no icon showing. I go through all the modes...including aux with the Zumo MP3 plugged in the front input port.

Try reloading the software (current), that might do it. Just a thought!

Yessir.  I learned this trick too........after wondering what the heck was going on with the warbling music.  Apparently I forgot to turn off the CB after this past weekend, and when I was doing the ZUMO power repair operational check, the MP3 player kept having ocsillating sound....as did the radio.....as did the CD player.  Then I looked at the screen, and noticed the CB was on and the squelch was showing one bar, which was fine up in the mountains, but not within 2 miles of US HWY 231/431.   ;D  Dummy me.  Turned off the CB, and all was well.

Thanks for the suggestions but the CB is off. I haven't dug into the bike yet. I think it will be a winter project. When it is fixed, I will post.

I had the same problem with my radio on my "06 Haze" and the dealer tried several times to trouble shoot it and could not correct it.  They ended up putting in new radio and all is well.
Good Luck.

JD,
Mine would go comepletly out as far as the audio.  I would then toggle the speaker switch and it would work for a while and go out again.  All of the other features of the radio would work through the headsets only and then finally it went completely out as far as the external speakers.
