I just happen to keep some information handy....

Check out this thread - Standard GPS or Garmin - implementation starting at reply #11. You will find a list of all the parts that others and myself have used. I ordered my Techmount from them directly, used the Radio Shack power plug (but will replace it w/the one Terry found if ever needed), and I also got a cover to put on the face of the Zumo to prevent scratches from - Invisible Shield (it says it is for a Street Pilot, but the display screen is the same size as the Zumo). Also check out this post - Zumo Tips/Tricks... this is a nice replacement security screw for the mount. The one that comes stock has this special screw/screwdriver that is a pain in the butt for us old guys. It is really small and hard to see. Both of the above threads have good information on parts, installation and tips/tricks for the Zumo.

Techmount 30997MC (these are for the stock handlebars (1") if you've changed yours you'll need to get one that corresponds to the diameter of your bars)

SOUND PROFESSIONALS - GOLD PLATED 3.5MM (1/8 INCH) RIGHT ANGLE STEREO PATCH CABLE (1 meter length)

Either one of the following two will be good for power plug if you want to use your cigarette lighter.

12V Flush Mount Receptacles & Plugs (Plug Only)

Sealink 12V Receptacles, Plugs, and Both (Plug Only)

The only other thing I did was went to a local fastener store w/the screws that hold the Zumo mount to the Techmount and got some shorter screws. You can see the difference in these two posts - stock screws and short screws.

Once you get the unit make sure you go to the following places to update and register your Zumo.

Product Registration

Web Updater (This will allow you to make sure your Zumo has the latest firmware)

MapSource software version 6.13.4 as of September 26, 2007

If you are going to be interested in loading POI's (Points Of Interest) you'll need this also - POI Loader for Windows software version 2.4.2 as of August 6, 2007.

Looks like the link for the replacement "lock down" screw is no longer active as I get an error for the web page.  Anyone happen to purchase more than 1? ;)  Was this just a regular thumb screw or did it have a similar "special tool" to unscrew it?

Thanks

Yes. It's just a thumbscrew no tools required.

One of the wonderful things about insomnia is being able to go back and REALLY get into and fully digest the info available here........like this stuff.  Being a ZUMO FNG, I discovered a new frustration last weekend at CHL.  If you're approaching the age of 45 or older, DO NOT attempt to mount and secure your ZUMO unless you have a WELL lit area in which to accomplish the task.  Frustration will abound.  Your arms are not long enough to allow you to both manipulate that stupid little screw and see what you're doing at the same time.  You will end up slingin' that little notched screwdriver thingy into the next county.  So, this thumbscrew doodad.............right up my blind alley.  Great find, Gary.  Thanks.

You may have a few years left before hitting the 50 and over bracket.  So you may want to place your order for a minimum of 4 thumb screws as "nimble fingers"  ;) will certainly begin to set in.  Oh yes, if you have bifocals or progressives, it won't help trying to find the screw on the floor.  The only problem is remembering where you put the spare ones! :)

Howie....if you've got an AUX in on your new radio set up, you'll need the patch cord d00d mentioned, if you want to load MP3's on the Zumo and have the option of playing them when you want to listen to the directions and the music at the same time, or just he directions.

Tell Santa  :santa2: to check PCNation.com for what seems to be the lowest price.  CheapUncle.com will help search for the lowest price but the one listed at under $600 did not come up on the company's web site that low.
