Handlebar decision drivin me nuts
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:50:42 AM »

:nixweiss:  I have an 06 SE FatBoy in Autum Haze and would like new bars but can't decide if apes or drags are the way to go for this particular model. I have rode bikes with both but can't picture which would look better on my ride.

I'm having dealer switch them over and hate to make the wrong decision. Comfort wise I do like the apes but looks wise the drags win...at least I think...any suggestions?

Bdygrd4u,

First of all welcome to the site, how long have you had this one & what have you done to it so far?

As for your bars all I can say is I love the look & feel of T-bars/Drag bars. Here is a couple of pics of your model if you have not seen them

Cheers

Thanks Aussie....just what I was looking for. Based on your pics I'm going with the drag bars. What is the pullback on yours and is that a 6in riser?

I'm planning on adding V&H Big Radius and SE race tuner then some forward controls. Probably all I can afford this winter but wanted to start soon.

You bike looks great and much better with drags. I just got my bike back from an accident I had in July...old lady hit me from behind while I was at a stop sign..her insurance paid the $17,000 repair bill so the bike is just as new again. Glad to be back on it!

Check out this old thread!

I can't remember the spec on the bars but I will look into it.

Wow what a repair bill it must have been a mess!

Major help Aussie...thanks!

Most of my bike damage was chrome scratched. The dealer did an excellent job with replacing everything that was scratched or even dirty..even the frame. I had some bruises and a sprained ankle but was fine..not even a hospital visit.

Lookin forward to the upgrades on this bike.

I strongly recomend that before you by a race tuner that you make very sure you find a very very expierienced SERT tuner as in my opinion most of them just load a canned map & tell you it is running great! The SERT is a very good product if you know how to use it. In my case there was no one around who was good enough & could not get the full potential from my engine for me. So I had to ditch the SERT & go for a PCIII which was supplied & installed by a guy who really new them inside out. Needless to say my bike has never ran so well.

Good advice. I was simply gonna let the dealership do it (http://www.kellysh-d.com/specials.asp) as they just got a dyno tune center and trained mechanics how to properly use it. I guess I should find out if someone knows of a place with guaranteed results.

Exactly! Most of these guys are just trained in producing huge invoices that most people just pay!
