I have a pair of Tony Lama's that have lasted thru 3 bikes. Had a rubber sole put on for traction. I bet they have 75K miles on them. And they feel as good today as when I bought them!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Danner boots! They're lined with Gore-Tex to keep your feet dry and great when off the bike. I also use them for hunting.

Comfort should be #1...when walking...and as was said..they should wick moisture to keep your feet dry...you can't go wrong with Danner or Red Wing for quality

I got a pair of HD boots.  Love em!  Surprisingly, they are  pretty comfortable to walk in.  Went to Copper Falls last year, walked about a 2 mile route.  No problems.

Got a couple of lace up H.D.s and like em a lot. One's just over the ankle and the other is a couple of inches taller.  An inside zipper would be a good thing and my next one's, if the day ever comes, will have the zipper as well as laces. Both have a cushioned strip around the top and that eases walking and avoids tearing up my calf. Next one's will have that too.

Check out the 1116 Red Wings.
Great for riding and not to bad for the walking.
But I must say I do like the Danner  Boot
Striker side zip gtx 8" Made for both riding and walking.
Check out www.danner.com
Military/police section
It will cost $$$ more then the Red Wings... but what a boot...
Gander Mnt. may have Striker gtx without the zipper.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

i wanna keep my eye on a taller boot to  protect my shins,,I had a rock come up and hit my leg ...ouch lol
i use a H-D boot now and it's a good boot but it's cut low, more like a high top boot.
i'm thinkin on a 11in tall or a 12in
a set that i can resoul would be a +
nothin like havin a trusty set of boots that wear  right
i'll check the danner boots too..Thanx                              [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I have bought many $200 pairs of Danner boots.  I climb communications towers. They never lasted long and I would take them back under warranty within 6 months for replacements (stitching breaks and boots leak).  I quit buying them.  Now I were H-D boots (not waterproof) that cost just over $100 and last just as long as any other boots I have worn including Red Wings.

I have a 7 year old pair of HD lace up zipper boots...love them but they are on their last leg  [smiley=laugh.gif] and the new ones do not come in wide width.

Lace up boots allow for perfect fit and the zipper allows for quick removal.

On my second pair of Cruiserworks, I have sent the first pair back to them for resoleing.  I thinkd the cost was about $30 and that will give basicly a new pair when the ones I have now wear out.  These boots are very comfortable and best of all are completely water proof.  Did a 9 day tour of the east last summer and spent 5 of those days riding in the rain, never once did I ever have wet feet.  Highly reccommended.

Everyone responded only about boots, but there are other riding gear, some obscure items such as arm warmers. Mr. WeCVO got pulled over on post yesterday in Alabama, for not wearing long sleeves.

Every post is different, and different can be as current as the current First Seargeant's interpretation of saftey gear.  I guess right now in Montgomery, AL, it is long sleeves. We have been to posts that want refelctive vests, reflective orange vests, reflective strip (useless when riding), a motorcycle saftey course certificate, on and on.  After 911 and the hit on the Pentagon, we lived in quarters on Fort Myer, which is between Arlington National Cemetary and the Pentagon, and there was a rule to throughly search all bags on bikes..... a motorcycle for one weekend qualified as a bike.   On Monday, my husband was able to educate the appropriate people to understand that to get base stickers for our motor cycles that we were riding from and to our residence, we had to prove all safety qualifications for us and the cycles. We did not get searched so much after that.

So in Montgomery, AL as we e-speak, they are having a tornado fly throug, golf ball size hail and three motorcycles are all vying for the protective cover of an entrance into barracks.  Ought to be interesting how they pull it off. I will ask MrWeCVO, once his bike is safe to take pictues, before I get the dreaded "ttiwwp"smiley-------

Wow Mrs.We, hope he doesn't lose out on the barracks entranceway.  I'm sure he'll improvise w/ tying a bed mattress or something from the barracks over the MC before taking golfball sized hail.  I think those storms are heading east.....we'll supposed to have 65mph winds here tonight.  You all too, probably.  Batten the hatches! We've been sort of "neighbors-once-removed."  When I lived and worked back there my place was within spitting distance of one of the Ft. Myer's gates.  Could sit on the front porch and watch some of the 3rd Infantry guys gear up for whatever ceremony might be next upcoming.

hd2003-se2005, Thanks for that reminder. Both Mr WeCVO and I have the auto transitioning Panoptx goggles - http://www.panoptxstore.com/ and would highly reccomend them. I like that they are as clear or as dark as they need to be automatically. Like when you dive into a tunnel in the mountains, they lighten up quickly so you don't have to remove them, and you only need one set for the entire day and all weather conditions.

Mrs.We, Do you and Mr.WeCVO have the prescription lens in your PANOPIX glasses? Which models did you all go with?  I've considered them, but currently use two pair of RX RayBans.  Have to switch between shades and clear, but they're the best I've been able to find so far.  Thank God for saddlebags to carry all this necessary gear.  Another reason that you have to switch from Choppers to Baggers as you get older!  Har! Thanks so much for going to all the trouble to look up the model of the glasses, Mrs.We.CVO.  I've considered ordering those exact glasses before, but have just been unsure.  Really need to try them on, I think.  The Chubasco model.  My only concern with the changing lens is whether they will be dark enough to cut the glare in the day and lighten up enough to see well at night.  I have all these vision problems going on so I need all the 'help' I can get.  I'll have to check out your glasses 'in person' at the Valley Gathering.  That'll be the ticket!  Thanks again, spyder [smiley=glasses2.gif]

Over the years I have collected a few excellent pieces of foul weater gear. Checked and I have found the following  "Reima" Cycloak GT Jacket,  Aeostitch Roadcrafter Jacket and Pants, Hein Gericke First Gear Kilimanjaroo Coat, HD FXRG Leather Pants.

All of the above have been great iwhen caught in rain and snow.

Looks like I will be selling the Aerostitch Roadcrafter Jacket, Mens size 44. To small now.

Anyway, I guess I'll move over to the "Selling" portion of the board.

Sunglasses...check out www.Wiley-X.com   I've been wearing them for 5 years. Great glasses made for Law Enforcement and Military.  Check out the SG-1 Goggle, my favorite, other CQC goggle looks interesting, haven't tried.

You see these glasses on our guys in Iraq all the time.  Very comfortable, exceeds all shatterproof regulations. Great colors in Blue  and Crimson ( have to get for new Red SSEG!).  Check out the explanation of  more.. on how and why they were developed, pretty neat story.

Come in prescription, add ultra and UV.  exchangeable clear lens.  I just buy extra frame and keep both sets available for quick change.

All my friends who had the old Panoptics switched.  Old Pans kept getting water between compounded lenses.  New Pans sound okay from previous posts.

I get asked a lot what kind of glasses am I wearing.  You won't be disappointed.

Any one else have these??

Sounds like the same boots I have........laced up the front, zippers on the sides.  I recently had them re-soled with the heavy duty Vibram lugged soles and heels.  Good for a couple more years, I think.

JCZ,

Just want to say thanks for the prompt.  I took my boots into the local cobbler and in one week (and $60) later, I have the equivalent of a new pair of boots.  I went with a simple Vibram Sole, for me, the lugged sole added too much height...makes it harder to get under the shifter when I am too lazy to lift my foot for the heel shift!  Also, a little less likely to collect dirt.

Thanks for the idea/prompt!

My husband and I  were riding on Saturday on the way home from a 300 mile ride, a stone flew up from a vehicle in front of us and hit me right in my left lens. Thank God I had the goggles on, but it caused the lens to fly out and I could not locate it.  I have sent a message to Panoptx to see if there any way to get only the lens?  My lining is getting very worn out too so I also asked if that be replaced as well?  I am lost without them.  My regular glasses are the transition kind, so I can use them for riding, but they do not offer the protection from the wind, sand and stuff.  We rode about 325 miles yesterday, and I sure missed my goggles.  I will let you know what the company says about replacement.  There website says that for 57.50 you can get the lens, but the lining is not addressed.  It might get cheaper to buy a new pair.  New they should cost about $145.

It was the freakiest thing.  I saw the stone coming - Looked like the size of the earth, but realistically probably the size of a cherry tomatoe.  I was wearing a helmet with a visor, my windshield is really too tall, I ducked my head downwards believing the windshield or the top of my helmet would take the hit.  Weird, the stone came down between the top of my windshield, past the tip of my visor and hit me right in the left lens of my goggles. I thought I had been shot. My eye instantly began to tear and I thought I was bleeding, but when I put my hand up to my eye, my eye was perfectly fine, just no lens there.  Yes you are right, I am glad the eye is fine.

Wow, Candy......glad your eye is ok.  Makes sense to wear goggles/glasses or something all the time even if not req'd. by law where you are riding, huh?  I've had rocks on the interstate hwys. fly up and split my cheek, but been lucky that they've never got the eye (yet).  Were you on a back road or where?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]   spyder

Spyder, on a very main drag, within 2 miles of the house.  Divided four lane road.  Not sure where the rock came from initially, but we have a lot of water around us.  My guess would be it originally was in the tire of a truck that had loaded or unloaded a boat at one of the many ramps around here.  But heck if I know where it came from.  Jamey was bugging me about the height of the windshield after that. I had just been talking about getting it cut down so I can see over it.  He thinks I might just want to keep sitting below it.  Even in real bad rain, I can see through it good enough to keep the bike between the lines and I seldom get bugs in my face, but wham!

--------------------------------

Now I just checked my email before posting this and I got a response already from Panoptx.  Now if this is not an example of exemplary service, I don't know what is.  This is what they said.

Candy,
Please send them back to us for a no charge lens replacement. The cost of the foam is $25.00 plus $7.50 shipping and handling. The turn around time is 2 to 3 days from the time we receive them. You can pay by personnel check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

Thanks, Ernie
ernie@panoptx.com
Send glasses to:
Panoptx Inc.
1252 Quarry Lane
Pleasanton, Calif. 94566

----------------------------------------

This is what I told them;

Hi, My husband and I are avid motorcyclists and we both have your 550117, Chubasco CV Black, Day and Night, Windless Eyewear. We ride about 15 - 20,000 miles a year, so avid may even be an understatement.  They are superior goggles. On Saturday on the way home from a 300 mile ride, a stone flew up from a vehicle in front of us and hit me right in my left lens. Thank God I had the goggles on, but it caused the lens to fly out and I could not locate it.  Is there any way to get only the lens?  I see that I could send my goggles for repair to
Panoptx Inc. 1252 Quarry Lane, Pleasanton, CA 94566 and for $50.00 plus $7.50 shipping and handling I could have them repaired. But My lining is getting very worn out too, can that be replaced as well?  If so, for how much?  I'd like to rush the order as I only have the one pair, since they cover all days all weather.  I am lost without them.

In fact, I am a often poster on a web forum where people with special bikes like my husband and I both have and I wrote a special review on your goggles. You can see it at; http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1111645237/34#34.  I am Mrs. WeCVO.

Might have helped...... might not have, but boy am I a happy camper.  The price for foam is $25.00 plus $7.50 shipping and handling and the company replacing the lens for free.  Wonderful.

Next to Pez and his honest replacement for the wonderful Hogtune speakers, this is the second best endorcement for customer service I have heard.  Wonderful! No doubt.  My husband just told me today that based on the response we got on helping us out with a freak accident that obviously the company had nothing to do with, and my goggles a couple of years old, he wants me to go ahead and get the prescription ones from Panoptx and use the replacement ones I will get back in a few days now as back up in case of such an emergency in future.  I have been riding a lot for the last several years, and this is the first time I ever got hit by debris in such a manner.  It may not be often, but what if you were on a long trip.... what would you do?  I am super impressed with customer service here!  Too bad HD does not take the same pride in their products as some of the smaller businesses do.

To continue the theme, my Panoptics were fogging really bad.  Called the company and sent them to them.  They drilled out the holes and sent them back no charge (they still fog up but not as badly).

I did not update you that last Monday when the replacement Panoptx goggles came in the mail.  I can see clearly now out of both lenses and the foam is brand spanking new.  So I mailed them out on the 18th and had them returned to me by the 24th.  That is less than one week. Am I impressed or what?  They either also replaced the right lense or polished it, cause it did have some minor scratches on it and they do not now. We stopped off at my eyeglass facility yesterday to have them fill out the presecription order form so I can get Panoptx with my prescription in them too.  What the heck.  Riding down the road and being able to see the individual leaves on the trees instead of just green blobs. That has to be better, right?

I also noticed way back in this thread that a picture of Jamey showing off sleeves only had been deleted by that bad-ole hacker so I will replace it here.

MrsWe, I thought you already had your prescription in those goggles.  That means what they did was just send you a new pair and explains both lens being clear, new foam, the quick turn-around, etc.  Think so?  :-/ Get the prescription, it'll be worth it!  What's Jamey getting for his birthday????  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]   Har!  spyder

I will be eating alone

Oh Mrs. We.  If you've got an evening where your single do me a favor and go down to The Dubliner for me.  Order the Shepard's Pie and pull up a chair to share a few pints and sing a few songs.  That's my favorite place in town and it's been too long since I've been.
