That's been it.  Just passing back through right now to grab different clothes.  It's rained today with a few degrees higher temp so a lot of the ice has gone.  But it's block after block after block of trees that look like small artillery went off in them.  A real mess. 

Enough ice gone that could get up in some stuff this afternoon to begin felling more that's broken and didn't make it down.  Still a lot of lines down and transformers blown.  Yards and whole streets just covered with small and very large debris.  The only thing you can do with a chain saw in a lot of places right now is clear a path.  Make it out of driveways and down the middle of a residential street to get to a larger open thoroughfare.  Stuff is still falling so a little care is required.  But it's better today than yesterday.  Tomorrow will see some big improvement as crews start to begin catching up. 

Today, however, a lot of you are still just buttheads .

Have to work tomorrow.....probably in shorts......but going Bluefin tuna fishing on Thursday and Friday....probably in shorts

Mike, there have been large swaths of the area without power.  What's been difficult for some businesses is that it has come and gone repeatedly in some areas.  Hard to staff and pay a shift when that's going to be going on.

As of tonight roads are mostly open again.  By tomorrow most business should be operating normal hours again.  Those that still aren't should be good to go by the weekend.

Well, we started out with really mild fall weather, but in the last three weeks it's showed about four times and the temps have dropped. Lows at night have gotten down to the single digits! Was 11 this morning with fog.

It was sunny and in the 60's today, same for Christmas Eve.

We got a bit more ice and a dusting of snow night before last.  Sun during the day though got rid of it all yesterday.  Cool or cold couple of days though.  Two days mid-week I got to get the bike out.  50s and in to the 60s one afternoon for a couple hours.  Took Parker for rides both days.  I'll claim butthead status for rides like those anytime .

That's what I need Brian.  I good bike ride.  It's 25 degrees or so outside; getting colder fast tonight.  Was supposed to go to a New Years bash.  Get lucky.  Get sloppy drunk.  (Not necessarily in that order, but it wouldn't have mattered)  All tolled have a very fun if albeit normal New Years celebration.

Then about 8:30 got a call.  My niece was staying at a grandmother's tonight and got scared of something.  Mom and Dad aren't home and are partying at a friend of theirs out of town.  So she wanted to have a sleepover here.  I'm a safe place I guess.

So the evening plans are shot.  We played Wii for 45 minutes and now she's passed out.  I was grumpy about dumping the evening until I just looked in on her sound asleep and beautiful as could be.  Now it's as I know it should be.  But I could still use a bike ride.

Well I still don't have a bike in the garage to get out to ride.....but fishing has been very very good to me..

Fished the Pirates Cove ASA Striper Tournament this past weekend. We has to leave out of Oregon Inlet because of the rules. There were not many fish close to the Inlet so we decided to make the long run to the Chesapeake Bay to fish...117 miles one way.
After launching the boat at 3:30am and making the 3.5 hour run, at close to 40mph we were fishing..
First day yielded us a 43lb fish putting us in first place for the day...Oh yes we had to run the boat back...another 3.5 hours
Second day all we could get was a 32lb er. We still held first place till the last minute and were beat out by 1.5lbs.
The ocean was a little messy on both days making our trip uncomfortable. If it had been nce we could have run 55mph all the way. Oh well you have to do what you have to do.
Ended up winning close to $4000 for second which if we finished first would have been close to $13000. Maybe next time

Real tired...didn't even look at the boat till noon yesterday. Had to wash it which takes about 6 hours. Now that is the real tiring part..hateful part also.

Today is the last pretty day here for a while...front moving in and the temps will be 39 highs....should have fished today...must be 65 outside right now.

Fishing used to be my only passion, but the lakes got so crowded, it took some of the enjoyment out of it for me, so I sold my Bass Cat and big a$$ed truck several years ago, bought a canoe and fly fishing gear, and get a lot more enjoyment out of that, plus it doesn't eat nearly as much as the 200 Merc and Bass Cat.  Actually used to win a bit of money from time to time...enough to pay the boat payment.  It was fun, but there was no livin' in it for me.  Glad to see someone who's livin' their dream and making a living from it.

Puppy proof?  So, is that new addition about ready to pick up from the breeder?  Puppies are into everything, so better get anything you don't want chewed on off the floor.  Get this book by Patrica McConnell, PhD....Family Friendly Dog Training.  It's a six week program for teaching the basic manners to your new "kid".  Well written, quick read, and provides a lot of insight into how your dog sees you.  The author is an animal behaviorist, so it's interesting stuff.

Today's a  kind of day.  There should be about 700-800 bikes so I want to ride the bike with the Thunderheader versus the Freedoms

Fishing used to be my only passion, but the lakes got so crowded, it took some of the enjoyment out of it for me, so I sold my Bass Cat and big a$$ed truck several years ago, bought a canoe and fly fishing gear, and get a lot more enjoyment out of that, plus it doesn't eat nearly as much as the 200 Merc and Bass Cat.  Actually used to win a bit of money from time to time...enough to pay the boat payment.  It was fun, but there was no livin' in it for me.  Glad to see someone who's livin' their dream and making a living from it.

Puppy proof?  So, is that new addition about ready to pick up from the breeder?  Puppies are into everything, so better get anything you don't want chewed on off the floor.  Get this book by Patrica McConnell, PhD....Family Friendly Dog Training.  It's a six week program for teaching the basic manners to your new "kid".  Well written, quick read, and provides a lot of insight into how your dog sees you.  The author is an animal behaviorist, so it's interesting stuff.

No riding for us for the next several days...colder than a titche's witty

Pick up the puppy for good tomorrow. We just took her for a walk, in between periods of the Buffalo-Pittsburgh outdoor hockey game. Awesome game We heard many bikes out on the road during the walk.

Kathy bought me a "Teach Your Lab" book by Michele Welton. I think it is easier to work on the bikes than teach a puppy

So glad you two are getting a new puppy.  Lab?  What color? 

We rode today in your behalf.  We left home this morning about 0800 ===== upper 30s in temp.  We got gas and drove to our absolutely favorite breakfast place - Millie's Diner.  They had a special News Years brunch today, and my or my was it good.

Then we drove up to the North Richmond chapter, met up with 80 or so bikes and drove to to Tappahanock for lunch at Lowery's.  They do family seafood, and it is very good.  We were not hungry enough to do it justice.  Then a pleasant drive home under blue skies and bright sunshine and low 50s for temps.  A short 165 mile putt around our neck of the woods.  Wonderful way to bring in the New Year.  Ernie, can not even imagine riding with 700 - 800 of my best friends.
