zumo fm
« on: March 26, 2008, 05:33:56 PM »

A question for you Zumo experts; do the voice commands brodcast to an FM frequency?
I think my 2730 may have chit the bed & I may be forced to pick up one on short notice & won't have time to hard wire it in.

TIA, Steve

You mean hardwire for power or audio?

Can't answer about voice commands broadcasting to FM, but you could use the following for quick connects...

Audio...

SOUND PROFESSIONALS - GOLD PLATED 3.5MM (1/8 INCH) RIGHT ANGLE STEREO PATCH CABLE (1 meter length)

Either one of the following two will be good for power plug if you want to use your cigarette lighter.....

12V Flush Mount Receptacles & Plugs (Plug Only)

Sealink 12V Receptacles, Plugs, and Both (Plug Only)

I've got a couple of those patch cables, but on my 2730 you can set it to broadcast wirelessly over an unused FM frquency, then tune your stereo to that frequency - no wires required. I'm just wondering if the Zumo does the same thing.

If that feature is what is called "FM Transmitter" then no the Zumo 550 doesn't have it. See here (click on "Specs" and it's 5th from the bottom).

Thanks, that probably means it doesn't, maybe I'll contact Garmin just to be sure.

No need to contact Garmin. It does not do this. But you can purchase this http://www.teptronics.com/fmmod.html and this http://www.audio-discounters.com/40-uv43.html and it will work great.

It's gonna be on a rental bike, so I'll just go the patch cord route.
