Yet another catastrophic 110 failure
« on: October 08, 2007, 06:02:01 PM »

My buddies 2007 SE Dyna with 14000mi bit the dust on friday. Started clanging then just as he shut it off the oil light came on. Saw the bike with the nose cone and cam drive off, visible gap on one side of the oil pump outer bushing. Another crank with runout WAY out of spec.

Is that 14,000 miles? So, this problem can really occur at any time rather than beginning break in period, eh? Gives me warm fuzzies to know I am sitting on a time bomb that can detonate any time it wants to...

Got a note from Ron, (my friend with the SE Dyna), today. The runout on the crank was .030, New engine should arrive on Thursday.

Any noticable signs of motor failure.  Is there a % rate of bad motors?  Are all the motors doing the same thing?

After 4 years, should I BUY MORE WARRANTY!?!

My 07 SERK motor was replaced at 5000 with .020 runout.  The spec  was increased to .012 from .003 in August.  The crank is essentially three pieces, primary shaft flywheel assembly, pinion (connect flywheels piston rods attach to it, outer flywhell oil pump shaft.
The pinion is press fitted.  Some of the motors have this issue where the flywheels move on the pinion and shif or scissor.  This makes a wobble at both the left and right side shafts.  Eventuall this wobble destroys the oil pump and boom.
Search this sight for TT324 and you'll see it explained.
