What scooters do the ladies ride?
« on: April 21, 2005, 06:36:01 PM »

My sweetie is going for her motorcycle driving training and liscence in June. She is 46, 5'6", and 125 lbs. Think she should be on a scooter that has a 24" seat height and at a weight that she can handle.

There is a learning curve no matter what bike you ride.  My wife came off dirt bikes (15 years of experience, but no riding at all for 8-10 years) and her first road bike was a Heritage.  She took the beginner class in July of last year, put around 1500 miles on the bike and we left on an 8000 mile trip in Aug.  She's now riding my RKC.  She is 5'4" with short legs so we lowered the Heritage.  Make sure she is at least flat footed and has some bend in her knees for the first 10000 miles or so.  It boosts confidence.  She had some low speed (parking lot drops) initially but none after the first 3000 miles.  She's flat footed on the RKC with no bend in her knee's but she claims she's more comfortable than on the Heritage.  Can't keep her off the King.  We're leaving for  Boise in a few minutes and I'll trade bikes with her tomorrow for a hundred miles or so.  My guess we'll be looking for a Glide of some sort for her soon.

Hey Dan, that '04 SEEG is for sale on this site......looks like a fair price to  me, and that would be a good swop for the Heritage.    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Just saw today that the local dealer in Smithfield, NC (just off I-95) has a $500.00 rebate on all FX's and $300 off all softtails and sportsters and $500 rebate on all Dressers.  That's the 1st REBATES I've seen since the 70's.  What's up, doc?   [smiley=nervous.gif] [smiley=confused.gif]

I don't think the choices were very well thought out for the poll. IMHO of course.

Are you just insinuating that ladies would obviously be riding the smaller of the HD bikes?  I used to ride a Road King Classic 95th anniversary edition, but am now riding the 05 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Well, looks like it'll either be a dyna or a "other". [smiley=laugh.gif]

BA, she can always consider "other" models and just change the seat and shocks........but you've probably thought of that.  Also, rather than go brand new, look at cycle trader for a bike that's already a year old that already might have these changes.  Just some thoughts bro.

My wife rides a '05 Softail Deluxe onto which she has emptied the chrome catalog.  Prior to that she had a Duece and a Heritage softail.  The Deluxe fits her great...lowest seat height on an HD, fat front tire for stability and a windshield for the Florida bugs.  Only upcoming change is a 95 kit so she can keep up with the ol' man.

Missed the brand new rider thing, I'd go low rider, softail fatboy, night train that kind of bike. Not any of the sportsters, they all have a high center of gravity.  Actually JCZ's advice about not brand new for the first 2-5 thousand miles would be a great thought too. I started on two Susukis, first one an 8-- then moved up to the 1500.  Only had problems with the first, and those were all my problems in parking lots.  Lotsa luck.
