I'm terribly sorry to hear this, and of the loss of your friend's life. My thoughts go out to his family, to the others that were injured, and to you and all their friends. Not much more I can say unfortunately. It could have been any one of us on any given day. We all ride more carefully every time we hear something like this. Another damn shame! :(

They say 2 injured, it was 3. I just watched the report on channel 11, so surreal. I hope his family doesn't see the camera shots they took

As in war... the first casualty in the media is the truth.

It's a sad statement when ones life is reduced to what ammounts to a couple of lines in the local newspaper.

Thanks for sharring.

Mike...so very sorry to hear about this.  Talk this out with your friends and those close to you...it will help to ease the pain a little.  We're all here if you need us.

Something was telling your friend to get the full face helmet...that decision by him probably saved his life, so glad he listened to himself...

CigarMike I'm very sorry to read about what happened to your friend. I had a similar experiance a few years back. Things over time do improve........ I think about my friend often (everytime I'm on my bike).  Hang in there and be the best support to his family that you can.  2Soaper!

I almost call AK Andy to come get my bike, I didnt think I would be able to ride home. I seriously hope his family does not see these pics.

Wow, very sorry for the long un-paragraphed post last night, I had just gotten back from this nightmare, threw down a few shots and then posted. Thank you everyone for your prayers for all the riders that went down and their families, I am OK, I couldnt cry at all yesterday, I was just numb, I couldnt cry untill I re-read my post this morning, It didnt seem like I was one of the persons involved in that story for some strange reason, I shed tears for Phil and his family, I am still numb, but am OK. Thanks again for being here and understanding.

CigarMike,
absolutely nothing to be sorry about-the important thing is to talk it out here and with your bros in San Jose. While it won't make any sense now-everything happens for a reason-somewhere--somehow--something positive will come from the pain and loss-it will be very tough to look for that and when you find that thing it will somehow be a relief-thank God it could have been worse.

Mike, wow, that's exactly what I was thinking reading through the posts.  I wish I could offer a hug.  Survivors guilt is real and understandable.  You did everything you could and God will take care of the rest.  I'm praying for you and your friends.  Thanks for sharing.  It makes us all a bit more cautious.

Mike,

You have my # if you need to talk.

Here's my email to the Observer...

I think that it absolutely sucks that you would publish sensationalist photos of the body under the tarp.  How would you feel if you were that person's family?

In addition, the article centers more around the traffic tie-up than the father of an 11 month old losing his life.  It's pathetic!

Mike, I am in shock after reading your post. I am so very sorry to hear about the tragic loss of Phil's life, the injuries of Pennelope, Jesse and George. I can't imagine mental pain that you are experiencing after living through the nightmare accident. I hope that I will never experience your pain firsthand. I will pray that you are comforted and that in time, you will have the strength to overcome the sorrow of your loss.

Its been a tough day and night... I got the call yesterday afternoon after the accident and have not been able to post about it. I built Jessie's bike for him and have done lots of work on both his and Phil's bike's. Its really sad that this happened, Phil is a great person and will be missed by many. Can't say much else right now......:(
