Mine are both working fine.
Question though... It sounds like I should NOT need the accessory switch on to use them correct?
On my new one, nothing worked until I flipped it on.
That is correct you should NOT need the accessory switch on to use them. You need to either return your bike to dealer for them to hook it up right or pull the seat and find the cable that goes into a "Y" and unplug the connection it is in now, and put it in the other one.

On my third CVO with heated grips, they seem to take awhile to heat up, but once they are up, the heat is excellent; I usually have to turn them down. One thought I will share with you, they work better with a medium weight glove, (heat transfers to your fingers better). I only use a heavy glove in temps below 35ish.

The grips should not need the accessory switch.  The seat is an optional hookup.  There isn't a right or wrong way.  Both plugs are located side by side under the seat so you have the option of choosing how you want it hooked up.  The theory is it's much easier to set the little switch on the side of the seat when sitting still and then turn it on and off with the easy to see while moving acc switch on the fairing cap.  For those who can walk and chew gum at the same time, you hook it up live and use the little rocker switches on the seat.

The error from the MoCo is that they didn't make it clear so many people think the seat is broken.  The dealers don't know enough to just tell you what I said above (My dealer does but as I've said before they're the best people to work with).

Ride Safe,

my grips have failed once...it was the thermostat side that went bad. since they have been fixed I ride with them on 3 with light gloves and 5 with heavier gloves.  even on 3 they are quite warm to the touch.

mine were very handy yesterday morning at 50 degrees for a 300 mile ride home.  I had them on 4 until after lunch then turned them off when the temp got closer to 70.  I love those things!

I run mine at 3 and they get plenty warm , in fact I usually back it off once my hands are warm and they stay toasty for a good 15 min.   I ride in just deerskin gloves , no liners and can ride comfortably in the 40's like that.

50 degrees... I can only dream of such things...

Rode home in 30 degrees last night, my knees are still frozen!

First time out my Heated grips quit working.
Dealer went to great effort to find problem, and eventually found a pulled wire on left grip.
After all of that they are working fine, 6 is too hot , usually leave on 2-3 in 40-50 degree days, and if it is colder than that will start out on 6 then set back.
Heated seat, High is too hot!, Low is sometimes to hot, but when you need it, it is tolarable for a while.

Too hot to touch - I'm on set number three.  First set made it two years - second set made it one week.

I usually run mine at about 3-4 with my mid-weight gloves on and 5-6 with the winter-weight gloves.  I was running them at 3 yesterday morning with the mid-wieghts on and forgot to shut the grips off when I parked the bike.  When I went back out in the afternoon to leave work it was 78 out so I put on my fingerless gloves and started up the bike to warm it up...by the time I put my hands on the grips, they were very warm to touch with bare fingers...immediately shut them off and it took about 10 minutes for them to cool down.  On my seat, I rarely, if ever, run on high....talk about roasting chesnuts on an open fire!!! :o  ::)  None of my heated accessories (seat or grips) is controlled by the acessory switch...

My grips are very poor. I have had the left grip replaced and now both grips have been replaced. Still no noticable heat. I am in for my 10K and have asked them to get the HD rep in to discuss. These things should reach 130 + or - 5 degrees and they don't even get close.
My seat which was not working well is now a great hot seat. Dealer said it was not plugged in correctly.

For the money we pay for these things I want it to work at least up to specs.  :soapbox:

I installed my own and they failed twice. I give up..... just going to leave them dead. They are a major bichh to replace with internal wiring on the Ultra Classics. Never had problems with the dealer changing out the grips though...
