New Windshield for SEUC
« on: April 28, 2008, 05:41:04 AM »

I just recieved a new windshield from a company callhttp://www.f4customs.com/. The winshield is a polycarbonate and coated with what they call SPEEDGLASS comes in different heights and either clear or smoke. I got a 9 1/2" to try out in smoke.  The coolest thing about the windshield is that it doesn't require anything other than spray cleaner and a "paper towel" per their advertising to clean it.  They even send me a small piece of the material and steel wool to test how it works.  The uncoated side immediately scratched with the steel wool, while the coated side showed ZERO scratches from the steel wool. They sale the windshields for $150, and if it is as good as they say it will definately be worth it.  I will test ride it for a few weeks and come back with my ride report.  I also talked with the owner who's name is Don and told him about this site and he said he could work us a deal if anybody wanted to order from him.  He also make windshields for Road Kings and Goldwings. Another thing that I liked is that all the windshields are Made in the USA.

If you call F4Customs.com tell Don you heard about his windshields from "Mark from Hawaii"

Jaques,

I will put a few pics of the windshield up, after I get home from work tomorrow.

Looks like a good product. I did not see any recurves though or am I missing something?

Trapperdog,

They do not do recurve, but clearview can't handle steelwool. but they do offer taller windshields than I ordered.  I actually like to get some wind since I ride in a very warm climate.

07, (you should have made that 007 :) ) Aloha. The steelwool thing is impressive! That is why I was hoping they made a recurve. I run an 8" recurve here in Ca. in the summer which allows enough wind for me, but we ride alot in 30 to 50 degree weather in winter and my eyes freeze ( half helmet). We have 6 or so shields in the garage, just looking for the perfect all year one that does not show much wear and tear. Keep us posted on how you like the new shield!  Roger

Looks great! The smoke is a perfect choice against the black. ( you know someone here is going to mention about you "needing" the chrome windshield trim) I will be interested to here how it holds up to the elements, (rocks, sand, birds......)  Roger

Trapperdog,

I am sure it will hold up a lot better than an acrylic windshield.  Especially if it catches a rock.  I have had acrylic windshields crack and shatter from rocks in the past.  I will give a full ride report once I get some miles on this windshield.

Trapperdog.

I personally don't want the chrome windshield trim, I don't like putting chrome over the painted parts.

For the SERK's, it only seems to be available in standard RK 5-hole W/S style, and not for the SERK 7-hole windscreen style. I like the tint better than the Clearview too. 269 bucks for a RK W/S. Expensive shield. How's it working out Mark? ???

Hoist,

I have a 9 1/2" and it is working fine. No wind buffering, and it sheds water like it has rain-X on it! So far I am happy with it.  Also after riding I cleaned it with a micro-fiber and windex and it cleaned real easy. No scratches or bug guts left.

As for the 7 hole SERK, I would give them a call and see if they can do it, because I know they make them here in the US, and drilling 2 more holes shouldn't be a problem

Thanks Mark. I use the standard 5-hole anyway. Just pointing it it to those that still use the stock 7-hole. I just might give that 17" tinted RK W/S a try. My clearview is getting scratched up already with only 10K miles on it. :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah but Howie, that's 10K miles of high-speed wind streaks on your shield, not scratches.   ::) :P

My new windshield from clearview came today. 91/2" re curve (only took a couple of weeks to get it). When I install, do I simply remove the front three screws, pull out the old and install the new shield the same way? If their is any trick to this, please let me know. My bike is a 2007 SEUC.

Scottt,

It is just that easy as taking out the three screws on the outer fairing with a Torx T-27 drive socket or screwdriver. Lightly bow the old windshield forward and slide it up/out of the fairing. Then just reverse the process with the new windshield. (BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS) when you put them back in.

Hope this helps

You can also just loosen the screws enough to slide the old shield out and the new one in. This prevents you from pushing the new shield in too far and scratching it above the fairing line. keep an eye on the screws after installation. Too loose and they will back out. Too tight and the retainer nut strips out its housing. Do NOT use locktite.

The New ClearView Windshield Went On, Easy As Could Be. Thanks For The Advise. I Love It. The 9 1/2" ReCurve Fits Me Perfect. It does Not Stop All Wind, But It Stopped The Wind Buffeting At Freeway Speeds, While Allowing Me To Look Over The Windshield. I am Very Happy.

Okay - I've got the 9 1/2" Clearview with the curve - great, but the Boss is complaining about buffeting at highway speeds above 65.  Anybody know where "Motorman" Palladino got that weird thing with the wide wings that stretch outside the regular windshield width?  Kinda strange looking, but I bet it does cut down on the buffeting.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.
TIA,
TC

Cindy is 5'10" and the Clearview shorter than 9 1/2 buffeted but the 9 1/2 is good for her.  Maybe you need slightly higher?

It could be helmet shape too, some get it more than others.  She rides with a half and no visor.
