'08 remote keyfob
« on: May 05, 2008, 09:03:52 PM »

My buddy has a '07 red jester. He saw me lock my bags using the remote and immediately wanted to know if there is a way to retrofit the '07 with the remote keyfob option. Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

There has been a lot of discussion about this topic . Simple answer is not at this time without major modifications.

I hope so buddy!
I'd love to have it on our bikes. That remote FOB would make life easier rather than having to unlock every time.

Try this link HD just released it.

Thanks for the link but as the HD site says it only works for the '08's. 2ln has said that the wiring harness is different from '07 to '08.

The actuators on the '08 are the same P/N as the '07. I bet the rest is compatable with the '07 too, just need to see the kit to figure it out.

From what I understand, it is the wiring harness that is different. Getting the extra wires from the dash back to the saddle bags and tour pac into the harness is the problem.

Yup, I've done it and it's easy, and works fine.

Did it and works great - thanks Keith!  Easy install and if you have an '07 jester you don't need a complete locking system for $699.99, only the $39.99 remote.

Isn't there a hot wire terminal inside the faring to attach to for power instead of running back to the battery?

Not one that I'd trust to be up to the job.  I was going to do that, but thought better of it and ran a new fused cable back to the battery.

You really need to run a new wire back. Two reasons for this. First is the relays pull quite a bit of current when they activate. Second is they are electrically, very dirty. When the release, they will cause a pretty good voltage spike on the supply wire. If it runs back to the battery, it will have less of an impact on other devices since the battery is very low impedance source. It only takes about 10 mins to remove the center console and run the wire.

That's a good reason, thanks for the info coyotedata, I will run it back to the battery.

But don't you have a CUSE3?  It's already standard on that!

Yes, I have a buddy with a red 07, he ordered the remote setup today so we should have it working in the next week or so.
