A little present from youtube...enjoy :2vrolijk_21:

Love watching trick drill

My daughter did 4 years of HS NJROTC, and was part of or leading the dill team for all 4 years.

I have to tell you, our kids were just as good as the Marines in the video, just not as many.
My daughters third year the the team earned the right to fly down to Pensacola for the nationwide drill team competition. Her unit was one of 20 invited.

Trick drill is heard enough, change it to armed drill and you really increase the difficulty level  - then go ahead and make it "Silent" armed trick drill and you have to see to believe. It is amazing whether your are watching the USMC team or your local high school ROTC.

Oh, and by the way, our high school unit used non firing, full weight genuine M-1's! Not some sissy 2 pound parade rifle. You can tell the difference by the noise. You can hear the "rattle" of the real rifles in the video. High schoolers don't get to use bayonets though  ::)

We had several kids that could spin the M-1 so fast it was nothing but a blur.

In the picture below, my daughter has just accepted the "change of command" for her senior year, she is the CO of the unit. Her XO, to her right, is a junior in this picture and is now in the USNA  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

We currently have 3 students in the USNA and have had a total of 8 so far.

In this picture the two cadets have just "thrown" their rifles and are receiving them. These two are 15 and 16 years old.

JROTC is a great program and it really makes you proud when you see the kids show pride in their country. The instructors do a phenomenal job with the kids.

Porthole,
those JROTC drill competitions are pretty remarkable. I just signed out on leave from Shippensburg University, PA. Did a rotation in the ROTC there 2yrs. I had the pleasure to judge a competition last year. They diffidently take that stuff seriously. We run a raider challenge that is just as big. The parents get really involved too.

It's good to see kids get involved, especially now a days with all the violence and drugs. Well good luck and great pictures.

The USMC Silent Drill Team without question is the most skilled, disciplined group I have ever seen. It would be hard to convince me otherwise. I've seen them twice in my career and both times was left in awe with jaws dropped and has motivated and made me proud to be an American and a Marine as one could be... NO question they are the best.

Porthole, I know you are PROUD of your daughter and her involvement with the ROTC and their drill experiences and you should be. As lzyboy stated of the violence and drugs; It takes a strong disciplined child and just as strong parents to guide their children in the right direction and it seems clear your family has prospered. I am happy for you and your daughter and if you are a little or a whole lot biased; then you have every right to be...Congrats to you and your wife for a job well done and my admiration to your daughter for how hard she has worked.

Not to disparage their drill team,

I was comparing the team in the video.

My comment was "our kids were just as good as the Marines in the video". There are several mistakes in the performance.

Our team has practiced with the color guard at the USNA and they have practiced with the marines that do the Iwo Jima memorial. They have learned a lot from these teams.

If you get the opportunity you should check out the competition in Pensacola. The kids are impressive.

4 years with my daughter in school and 2 extra years as an air rifle coach, I no longer have ties with the JROTC unit.

                           Veteran
I was a proud veteran, that served my country well.
To those that would listen, I had many stories to tell.

We fought for America's freedom, in far away places on foreign lands.
Whenever the battle for democracy raged. America's finest made a stand.

We fought for your future, and the right to remain free.
For we saw waht freedom meant to those not blessed with liberty.

For your and yours we would gladly have given out life.
We faced the fears and perils of battle and braved endless turmoil and strife.

Please remember us veterans and the sacrifices we made for you.
Please share the blessings of freedom.

Proudly wave the red, white and blue.
