2004 Handlebars
« on: May 27, 2008, 04:25:12 PM »

Hi All,
Do the 2004 SEEG have 2 piece handle bars or are mine snapped in half?
I've looked and can't find anywhere that says, I see the after market ones like the WO575 are one piece. So I'm just wondering if I need to have the HD stealership replace the broken ones (if they are broken) under the extended warranty or to just put the WO575s on? All info is greatly appreciated.

They are one piece. Harley has not had a 2 piece set since 1973 FLH on any touring models.

Your local Harley Mail order Distributor can order you a set anytime!

That's what I was wondering.  Pull them down hard, especially with the two piece clamp, and they'll crack in the middle.  Crack now, break later.  That would not be a fun ride.

nothing to show for a pict...yet.  was on a trailer...500 miles ago. thats my guess too, broke in half on the trailer. they still feel tight on the bike but you can move them back and forth a couple of inchs independently. I'm thinking I'll do the swap myself w/ WO575's, when I get the busted bars off the bike (or get to them) I'll take some photos...
So far I know I'll need the bars and the brake extender and a clamp part? does anyone have a part # for the clamp? Oh and lots of time. Anything else?

May as well as change out the riser bushings from the rubber to the polyurethane available from the MOCO in the P&A wish book.

You also need the 1 piece clamp. If you order it from HD-Dude on this site he already knows what you need.

2" over brake line and 2" over throttle cables. do the throttle cables now and save yourself the trouble from having to do it later.

You will probably have to remove and leave off the rubber grommets where the bars go through the lower inner fairing cover.

While your doing all this why not add the heated grips? Heat Demons, best deal now seems to be the eBay sales.

Patience wit the wires, plan on 6-7 hours, the old bars come fairly easy, the new ones aren't too hard, just time consuming.

I'm sorry, I was sitting back staying out of this thread until I read the highlighted section above. Has anyone ever witnessed what happens when handlebars completely snap off ? I have and it ain't pretty. darcyjames before you spend any money on parts to repair this with you need to get to the nearest casino and place a large wager on anything the pleases you. I'm sure you'll win because you are having one hell of a lucky streak riding a motorcycle as described above and being unscathed.
