HELP! Engine Ping
« on: May 31, 2008, 11:53:46 AM »

Hello, I'm just new to the site. I was wondering if someone could help me out? I ride a 2005 FLHTCSE2 with V&H pipes,
Harley High Flow and a Power Commander. I've recently had the bike dyno tuned, and I'm experiencing engine ping
when the bike is hot, and under load. The bike also seems to be idling lower than the 1000 1050 range (950 to 1000)

I am now considering a Harley Race Tuner. Is this the way to go for these bikes?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
First off welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: In regards to what tuning device to use first fine a tuner that you are confident in, and ask what he is most competent tuning with. When he tells you that, then that is the device you want to use.

When you get a chance you should go to this board - New Member Introduction and start a thread to introduce yourself.

Steve,
Welcome to the site.  My SEUC was tuned using the SERT and it idles around 950 and I've not had any problems with that.  I had some pinging when going up in the mountains in Tennessee.  I think it was a bad tank of gas, cuz on the next fillup, we went up the same road again, under similar temps and it didn't ping and hasn't pinged since.  Try something like Shell V-Power, or BP Ultimate and see if that helps.  Both of those work great in my SEUC.  Sunoco super premium works very well too.

My vote would be bad gas also, if your good with the tuner that's probably the issue.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I think your the gentlemen I parked my bike next to while visiting from Canada at Patriot HD last weekend, that handed me a card for this site. I had my bike tuned by a power commander authorized dealer. l
Maybe it was some bad gas? I guess I'll just have to monitor it.

But ping, well that's another story.

My thoughts were it was a smoking utensil used extensively in the 60s and 70s and 80s 90s.......
