This first link will take you to a story about a guy I went through school (middle-high) that lost his life 2 miles from our home on this Monday. I didn't know Joe barely at all but my heart still goes out to his family. The Kojak look alike LEO in the pic is a good friend of mine. Sad stories of how two families have lost one of thiers, friends are going to be hurt and we have lost two members of our motorcycle family. Yes indeed, we all need to be very careful.  Thanks Glen.

The ticket will most likely come as a failure to yield when the investigation is done, but it is a battle we (most likely)won't win as riders.

And the result is the same the man is dead right-a realistic soilution is a nationwide awareness campaign by the AMA and NHST and IMHO!

I think that it should be more than a ticket, I mean a life was lost due to some ones negligence!!!!!!!!

Vehicular homicide is one charge that comes to mind from this area.  Not every state offers that option however.  And if the state or locality won't press criminal charges, that doesn't mean his family can't file a wrongful death suit in civil court.

I assume sheriff is an elected position.  If that is the case, I can think of someone all of the bike riders in the area might want to campaign against in the next election.

Thats the problem it should be recognized in all states,
and yes the riders in that state or local should not only campain against the sheriff, but also to change the law.
Maybe even to stand behind the family's in a show of support if a wrongfull death suit is filed.

We have vehicular manslaughter in NY but it's only charged in conjunction with other serious infractions such as driving without a license, DUI, or complete negligence.  The hard part about these incidences is it would be a minor fender bender in a car if someone fails to yield the right of way but a potentially deadly event for us.
