Question on the California Coast
« on: June 18, 2008, 11:18:09 AM »

Lil-Bit and I are planning a little ride up the coast, taking the 1 as far as Fort Brag, first night in Solvang. A couple years ago we saw allot of fog in the Monterey area about the same time of year. Can any locals tell me what to expect? I know we're not weathermen here, just need to limit my load of cloths. Leaving Sat. June 28th. Thanks, Dave

We used to live close to there and I remember always having morning fog from 10am to noon and then clearing off for a nice day.

Rooster got it right.  Foggy in the AM, burning off by 11 or noon...

I lived there for 35 years , and I'd agree .  You can bet on morning and evening fog, clouds.  It is a spectacular ride , and I've made from the Big Sur area up to Ft. Bragg  really a memorable ride , bring rain gear and you should be fine.

We spent three days (and nights) on the coast a couple of weeks ago, coming down from Portland.  There wasn't any morning fog on the north coast then.  Do a weather search for Cambria, Carmel, Monterey, San Francisco and Ft. Bragg......that should give you a pretty good idea of the coast overall.

The coast is like a box of chocolates... if you know what I mean. Like Nidan said, bring rain gear, serves as a great windbreaker too. We ride up and down the coast all the time, let me know what your plans are and if time permits we can join up somewhere. Anywhere from Moro Bay on up.Roger

I drive the coast a lot. Summer's can be the worse for fog. Typiclly the hotter it is inland the cooler and foggier it will be along the coast.

Weather is messed up here.  Not getting the fog along the coast yesterday or today so it's friggin' hot, even along the coast.  It's supposed to go back to normal tomorrow... :nixweiss:

B B,

Made it back to Austin June 7th for ROT Rally. I moving on Tuesday heading East, what is SC and NC like along the coast? Going to Michigan for 4th of July with Family and hoping to do the Canadian Rockies between Calgary and BC in August.

My 110 is still running great, has a small oil stain on the back cylinder fin but not losing/using any measurable oil. Just went today out with friends thru the hill country and on the San Antonio River walk for lunch, put another 380 miles on the bike.

I'm going to ride it until I get a gusher from the head gasket. The stain has not gotten any larger and no oil is dripping so maybe it fixed itself on my way thru southern AZ, NM, and Texas.

Picture is from 6th St. Austin during ROT Rally Friday Night.

Stay in touch Amigo. It's looking like I'm heading east in a month of so and will be kicking around New England until time to head to MV in September
