Radio Data System.  Alongside the radio signal they transmit all sorts of info about the programme and the station that scrolls across the screen; interrupts broadcasts with local traffic reports too..  Also enables autotuning to the nearest transmitter for a station as you move around the country. (Assuming it transmits from multiple transmitters of course). Pretty well all auto radios have had it (and some home ones) in Europe for the last 20 years.

Why?  I just went the other way - been in the TP on the last two bikes, but inside the fairing this time....

Just discovered why.  Perfectly shaped for drops of water to run in along the top of the connector and POOF!  No more Bluetooth...  :(

Replacement will go in the tour pak.

A friend with me on the entire trip, through the same rain, bike washing at the same time was fine.....  Ah well, we should have known they wanted it in the Tourpak for a reason! :(
