We've got a low clearance underpass on Main Street of our city that will banana peel the tops of trucks on a regular basis.

Do they have to constantly repair/shore up the underpass or doesn't it sustain signicant damage?

It's an old railroad overpass that is made out of "real" steel. Even after all the times that it has been hit I think they only thing that is happening to it is it's getting a sharper edge on the steel. It peels back trucks like peeling a banana only way you can tell it's been hit is by some paint on it or seeing pieces of aluminum stuck to it.

unbelievable.

that thing says camera 2 - I'd love to see this from the other angles. The youtube poster only put this one vid up.

looking closely at it, it looks like the driver could have survived, if that roof only hit the edge of his door, maybe all that happened is he chit his pants.

But I think that driver's hurt pretty bad at least...

There's a thread about this on one of the RV sites. Turns out Dad heard the initial impact, starterd jumping for the passenger side door, grabbing the kind seated in the passenger seat. Both got out without a scrape! Watch the video again, you'll see the passenger side front door opening as the roof comes down.

To react that quickly, it almost seems as if you would have to 'train' for bringing one down in that manner. Seems strange.......guess he wasn't belted-in either. $:-\$ spyder

Just think of being a bike stopped for gas beneath that canopy when someone else hits it. I think unless I was alread on the saddle with the engine running I'd have to run like hell and kiss the bike good bye.
