Hey, I got a home cooked meal last night.  Anything else was just a creative use of gravy.

Decided not to start a new thread on this, but the info DCfireman has in the first post is incomplete.  Saw the info from HD to the dealer today - personally.  Dated July 16, 2008.

Details are:

New Head Gaskets
New Cylinders
New ACR's
New Valve Guides
New Crankshaft nut

That's it.  Letter will go out in August to ALL 2007 CVO owners & 2008 CVO owners with bikes with a production date prior to April (believe it said April 9) 2008.  Letter will be going out in the latter part of August & replacement/repair can be scheduled then.

Just stopped by the board today for this one post.  Check with your Service Mgr. if you have any questions - they should have this info by now.

I just got back from the shop and was told HD would be replacing the heads not just guides, compresion release valves and gaskets. Even if the bike has been repaired before they are still going to do the work they are recomending. I was told letters are going out shortly.

I wonder if the MoCo changed vendors on the cylinders? Is when you scooter was built going to be how HD will determine who get the "new cylinders"? I did not see the letter. I did ask my SM did answer a question about the cylinders. His response was the MoCo did not include cylinders in the fix. The SM was one of the first to public acknowledge to me that this is a known problem. The dealers are powerless at this point. The MoCo will determine what needs fixed. At least they are publicly making steps in the right direction.

Are the later 110's not suffering the same fate as the earlier builds? Has anyone looked into this? My vote remains the same. Heck, I hope I'm wrong. ;)

If the repair is a complete top end, and if the repair is to be given to even those that have had repairs done before, one has to wonder what compensation will be granted to those that went aftermarket for cylinders or other parts to repair it themselves while Harley was still saying you can't believe what you read on the Internet.

Ok, that really was a rhetorical question.

Ok JW.  But for theater's sake I'll play the role of you and you get to be the nice Motor Company.  Here goes:

Compensation: Drama or Tragedy in One Act

Black Diamond: (ring, ring)  Hello, Motor Company.  I just received your Service Bulletin in the mail.  By the way, the scented paper and KY were a nice touch.  I'm just wondering though; you see, I already did all this.  Because I was smarter, faster, more responsive and proactive, and actually cared about whether or not my bike might crap out on me days from home.  Since I saved you trouble of the repair I was wondering what compensation package you're offering those of us who actually didn't have our head in the sand?  Thank you.

For those that will have that option it's great.  Can even cut the service dept a bit of slack if need be by letting them write it up as if they actually did the work and double dip on the labor just to get the new parts in hand.  Then off to eBay with a nice set of new parts and gain some recovery.

Anyone that bought cylinders and did some work to their old heads is hosed though.  Such an option will be a benefit for some though.  Would make a Saturday afternoon cylinder head R&R a worthwhile proposition.

Now, try to find a tech skilled enough to actually perform this work without scratching the chit out of your frame/bodywork AND messing up the motor, making it worse.

I don't know what to do.   Mine hasn't had problems, but after this 'dealer-fix', I bet it will.

See if you can leave this option in your back pocket for later use, if needed. I hope you never need it.  :)
