Improvements to the 2009 Harley-Davidson CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide include a new frame, new 2-1-2 exhaust system, and a suspended seat to protect the rider from engine heat.

Man, I really like the Red & Maroon.

Not sure about the new exhaust :nixweiss:

And, what is a "suspended seat"?

Is there something different about the rack on the tourpak......is that the new rack with the L.E.D. in it?

Yea, another year of substantial changes to keep the aftermarket at bay. Wonder how long it will take to get a set of true duals on the market now? :nixweiss:

With the pipe that close to the rear tire might bring a new meaning to "burning rubber". :wiseguy: Heh, but at least your tire will stay heated up/tacky for the drags. ;D

Like the Ruby Red best by far - from these pics.

Interesting - heat shields - makes sense considering.

Appears the tour pack may moved back - still cannot tell from these pics.

Suspended seat also a good idea from the comfort standpoint.

That beefier rear tire looks nice. I wonder how they handled the necessary offset? :nixweiss:

Wonder how the drive belt will handle the exhaust heat. Setting 3 hours in traffic in Chicago should cook it well done!

That triple red is gorgeous!  I see that they still don't have color matched frames on the CVO Ultras.  What's up with that?  Really interested to see all of the frame changes.

I agree on the color. Although I'm sure the other colors will look better in sunlight, I think the 3xred will be the hot seller this year. If I didn't already have one, I'd be tempted, as long as the other changes past the sniff test.

Hopefully we'll get the upgrade PDF soon.

Sure does look that way. Wonder if they went with the SERK 3/4 sizes? I thought they'd do that to the '08 FLs after introducing those tire sizes on the SERK3. But they didn't. Wonder if this is a new setup, or the same as the SERK 3/4's. What were the frame changes? :confused5:

-- Seven Touring models rolling on a new chassis that combines a new frame, swingarm, wheels and tires, plus redesigned exhaust and engine mounting. The results include crisp maneuverability, more luggage capacity, enhanced heat management and increased rear tire life.

-- Seven Touring models rolling on a new chassis that combines a new frame, swingarm, wheels and tires, plus redesigned exhaust and engine mounting. The results include crisp maneuverability, more luggage capacity, enhanced heat management and increased rear tire life.

How do you think they're getting "increased tire life"!!!!!!!  A little oil makes a tire last a long time!  That's the reason for the under cross exhaust- helps keep the tire hot, so the oil will soak in!

That triple red is gorgeous!

Amen to that.  The 09s in all the colors make a good first impression here.  But that red one; (insert whistle sound here).

As much as I was hoping the 09 SERG would be a visual standout these are the best looking CVO paint schemes since the SEEGs.  Took them four years of tweaking the theme to finally nail it.  And that red one; yowzer.

The new Ultra crowd has a lot to look forward to visually.  Now can't wait to begin hearing how the new frames/suspension will perform.  Interesting things this year.

Ernie, I like this 09 SEUC paint scheme; a lot.  And that's after having been underwhelmed by the prior three years.  The red looks amazing in the pictures too.  But not doing three touring bikes.  And the two here now aren't going anyplace.  So I'll have to bum rides on someone elses new SEUC :2vrolijk_21: .

A brandywine serk isn't like a real real touring bike...is it?

A red blade is well, what it is...At least they had a black one of those.

The 09 silver UC has me a little tingly considering how bad the 09 b/o serg's bum and bags look, what a drag.

I see that they still don't have color matched frames on the CVO Ultras.  What's up with that?

The painted frames would probably show the oil stains too easily?  :nixweiss:  :soapbox:

Nah, oil tends to attack rubber so that's not it. ;)  What I'm hoping is that they've changed the rear engine/trans/swingarm mount to eliminate the squirm/wobble.  They can't say anything about eliminating the wobble, since they refuse to admit it exists, so improved tire life will have to do for now.  All I care is that they finally updated their 30 year old frame design; now we'll see how much of an improvement it is.

Maybe they used an "under frame" exhaust mount to stiffen the rear?  Dual purpose.

Thanks for the photos of the '09 CVO's... I still can't get into all sections of the H-D website and was glad to have a peek.

I'm not a red guy at all, so that rules out 2 of the Ultra's leaving only the blue & silver which is just OK... I think I'll stick with my Duracell for another year.

The new exhaust system looks interesting.  I wonder if it will help with the heat.  I noticed that they now come with heat shields as standard equipment.  I also wonder with the new headers if you can use a center stand???

By the way (touch wood) I have over 12,000 on my Duracell and not a single drop of oil!  Just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks again for the photos.

Take care,
Grizzly

Yes they did. Planning to look at this on a bike first chance I get.  With the 08's as an example, doubt anything can be retrofitted to my 07 from the mounts on an 09.

Still no counterbalanced motor in the touring models.

What were they thinking about when they put the grey inserts in the seat?
It will only look good on the silver bike and only if it matches the color on the
bike. The red one looks to be the best looking color, but I will reserve final
judgement until I see the other colors in person.

But they STILL have not learned one thing from this site....that the rear intercom plug should be incorporated into the left speaker pod!

Tour pack mount looks different

Definitely different.  After you mentioned it, I pulled up pictures of my 08 and sure enough, it's different.

Almost looks like it would run down to where the quick connect mounts would be - if you had quick disconnect hardware?  :nixweiss:

Like the CVO logo fuel door?  Probably protected part though, so can't order for previous years.

HD brochure says "new" push button fuel door with CVO logo, looks etched but small picture, guess will need to see in person.  Looks kinda neat though!  Would be nice if HD would make some of the newer parts available for those of us with previous year bikes.

Fuel doors on the dashes over the six gallon tanks are larger.  So prior year bikes to the larger tank couldn't use it anyway.  I'd noticed that gas door also.  But with an 05 or 00 am unable to use it.

Was told yesterday that basically nothing improved/changed on these 09's FL's will retrofit.

Frame change is substantial & while I have not seen one in person, also heard there is a fairly large space above the tranny area in the rear.  Nothing there but large enough for a typical softail oil bag or.......

even some type of tank.  Frame change looks like HD is getting ready for some more serious changes in the next year or so & liquids sure appear to be involved.  If they place a tank there, lots of alternatives for less noticeable cooling fins instead of the more expected front of the bike.  Makes ya wonder....

FYI - FLHTCUSE4 in High Octane/Autumn Haze Available at Hal's Harley - New Berlin (Milwaukee Area), WI at MSRP as 8/11/08.
This is really a very nice color - better than I thought it would be.  The Orange sparkles in the sun a lot like the yellow SEEG2 (Nanner) of a few years ago. Fat rear tire and new wheels are really cool.  Only thing that was weird was seat insert which is gray/silver - someone else mentioned that it doesn't match the orange or red FLHTCUSE4 at all.

The antenna's are shorter.  I saw a regular 09 Ultra and they antenna's are about 24" - 30" long.  The new antenna's look a lot like the J&M antenna's that several of us have, only longer.

Wonder how the drive belt will handle the exhaust heat. Setting 3 hours in traffic in Chicago should cook it well done!

 :pumpkin:
Brad

I looked at the distance between the belt and the exhaust is very minimal.......should make it interesting for sure.

Like the Ruby Red best by far - from these pics.

Interesting - heat shields - makes sense considering.

Appears the tour pack may moved back - still cannot tell from these pics.

Suspended seat also a good idea from the comfort standpoint.

I can't seem to figure out what a suspended seat is?

Maybe this has been talked about and I just missed it........I was in Vegas last week and went to the LV HD dealer and they had a few 09 Ultra's(non cvo) and a Streetglide.  I was told that on these models only there is a new system whereby you turn the throttle forward....beyond the normal idle position.....when stopped and the rear cylinder shuts down, ie while stopped at a light, etc.  Then as you accelerate the rear cylinder kicks in again. Does the 09 SEUC have this?  Again I was told it's only offered on the Ultra and Streetglide for 09.
It sounds like something else to go wrong on the bikes to me.

Willie....what does that have to do with answering my question about the suspended seat? :nixweiss:

HA HA HA.... just kidding. It has been discussed but not enough. It is the same as the o7's had only you couldn't turn it on and off so easy. You either had to have a SERT and go into the program to switch it on and off or have the dealer turn it off (I think it came factory with it on). Then it would shut it down only if it got hot enough and then kick back on once you got moving AND it got "cool" enough. I think thats how it went.
