Finally Home! was:Another Deuce Down...
« on: June 18, 2005, 11:07:51 AM »

Well, I was hit by the rider behind me yesterday and sent to the ground...the guy behind me is my best friend...he went into brush and sustained no damage, I hit the pavement.  Tested out the attitude sensor, it works, engine shut down.

I've got some damage, tank is indented where my knee got between it and the pavement, pipes, turn signals, right mirror, grip and foot peg and brake pedal.

Just glad neither of us was seriously hurt.  I have a sore shoulder and scraped knee.  BTW, those nylon jackets are made pretty damn good, no tears!

/Bill

Wish I could say this was from aggressive riding...

Bill, that SUCKS!  What were the circumstances behind the incident?  Sounds like someone was riding aggressively, maybe not you, but your friend?

If your tank isn't scratched, you might try a paintless dent removal service to pop the dent back out.  I put a huge dent in a car I owned once (don't ask me how  [smiley=zstupid.gif] ) and the guy here popped it out and it looked absolutely perfect afterward.  Would be surprised if it costs more than $100 bucks and then you still have the original tank and no wait for a replacement tank.

Glad you are OK, but feel bad for your SED (not to mention those cool pipes [smiley=laugh.gif]).

By the way, how did your attitude sensor work after getting rear-ended by your best friend? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I was out for a ride with my best friend, just the two of us.  We just passed though an intersection, Salem (four corners), CT, I was leading and I pointed to the shop, Bad Boyz Toyz going through the intersection, hit my turn signal and looked for the entrance just after the building.  Slowed down started to make my turn, heard tires lock up behind me, felt a collision on my right side.  As I fell to the ground and once I was there, I was watching my friend ride into some brush.  His body is really what hit me I believe and knocked me off balance.  If I wasn't turning, the bike probably would not have gone down.

No less than 6 riders were on the spot in two minutes helping to get the bike off me and then get my friend's Fatboy out of the brush.  It was cool that the engine shut off automatically.  This ended the riding for the day but I still had a 90 mile ride to get home.  Mostly I-95 from New London CT to Providence.  The right peg, being bent felt weird and I didn't use the Rear Brake since the pedal was so loose.

Just dropped the Bike off at Sheldon's HD in Auburn, MA. at 1:30.  Not sure whan they will look at it.  103ThunDer, I have seen that technique advertised, but since this is a claim against my friend's insurance, I want a new one.  I just believe (n evidence) that the paint application is not that flexible in the long run and will develop crazing in a couple of years if they pull it out.

Just glad we are both OK.

/Bill

Just read of your mishap Bill.  Really sorry that the bike got dinged up as it did.  Very glad, however, that you and your buddy and your jacket all came through it and walked away.

Funny,

Just got off the phone with my buddy's insurance for the second time, completely different attitude.  First call, very defensive, then I said towards the end of the conversation that all I want is my bike returned to original condition...nothing more, nothing less...and no Personal Injury claim.  The second call, not recorded, they will be sending an adjuster to the dealer and will cover my claim.  With the PI albatros removed, they started moving quicker.

WFP,

Glad to hear that you are not hurt too seriously.  Bummer of a story.  Take it from someone who knows, the bike will be put back together very nice.  As someone mentioned earlier, it will take a long time to get painted parts back from HD for a CVO bike.  It takes about 10 weeks.

Hope it all works out well for you.

Bill, just saw your post about the accident and the pics.  Man, I'm sorry.  I know your buddy didn't do anything wrong.....just one of those riding deals.  It's easy to look back and pick it apart and 2nd guess the whole deal, but just be glad nothing worse came of it.  I've seen the exact accident happen in front of me w/ two of my riding buddies, and believe me, they've both extremely experienced riders and were cold sober too boot.  Just a lapse in attention.  As bad as you feel, I'm sure he feels terrible too.  Keep us up to speed on the progress of the repairs.    [smiley=brood.gif]  spyder
