Weatherproof Non-Motorcycle Cover!
« on: September 02, 2008, 01:27:55 PM »

I have a '90 Miata that I got in '89 shortly after my second kid was born. Wasn't riding much after the 2 babies. By the early 90's I couldn't take it anymore. Only used the car top down and I tried to make it feel like it was my 4-wheel motorcycle. It wasn't, but was still good to be in the wind at the time! Since I got back on the bikes in the early '90's, that car hasn't been used much at all. Less than 25K on it. I just cancelled the insurance and turned the plates in. I plan on keeping it as it's prolly not worth much being 20 YO and all. And the car's mint, so it might come in handy one day after retirement down the road! So...

I'm looking for a weatherproof cover for it that will also breathe somewhat and not trap moisture underneath the cover. The top leaks a little, but not reparing it anytime soon. The car is stored outside, in my driveway. That's why the weatherproof requirement. Can anyone recommend a good cover for this application? Thanks gang! :2vrolijk_21:

Holy crap! That was fast!!! What service!!! :2vrolijk_21:

Before checking these links, any particular type material I should, and shouldn't be looking at. I had a cover for it years ago. It was waterproof, but trapped moisture underneath. So I sold that one. This cover will be on for sometime I presume! ;)

They have to let moisture through in order to let it out...There are some companys that have enclosure that you driver on top of and zip it up, I dunno...I think it would still have to be dessicated chemically or via heat (to maintain temp above dew point) somehow...You gonna use a battery tender and keep it startable?

When I long term storage things like gas turbines, they are prepped for storage and sealed in a rigid container with dessicant packed inside...

The pressurized capsules are only as good as the air inlet filter and electrical supply.  That is why the bubble I bought for the Oldster in on the shelf...It let real fine particulate through.
A good cover under a canopy may work to make it easy to start now and then.  Or a tragic fire...

Wow, wonder if they have a Miata Bubble? Wouldn't have to be much bigger than a HD Bibble! ;D ;)

Look at either the "Stormweave" or the "Ultraweave" materials from California Car Cover.  Especially check out the Ultraweave.  Then the Miata would have a fairing ??? .

Don't park it on a surface that retains moisture...grass is worse than gravel which is worse than asphalt...
