06 SEUC Custom out from the lurking
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:18:40 PM »

Hi Guy's,  The other day I posted in response to the Day Long seat question because I love mine and as I expected the responses to the bike started.  I have been out of town since than so rather than answer what the bike is there I figure I will do this here hope it is in the right topic area. Low down on me, I have been riding for 25 years or so mid aged bald guy who loves the open and freedom of the bike.  Mechanical back ground including ASE certifications and 20 years in the large equipment industry.  I have wanted a SEUC since I first saw the 06 in Sturgis but could never afford one.  A good friend of mine bought an 07 SEUC and that just hurt every time I rode it.  My 03 100th anniv. ultra had been great but had to go.  I have the facilities to build any type of eq. and figured having built a couple of other pieces before that this shouldn't be too hard if I could find the right bike so here's what I have.

In October of last year I bought a Autumn Haze 06 from the North Carolina area.  The bike was held by an insurance company down there and had only 527 miles on her.  Below are a couple of pics of what she looked like. NOT PRETTY!! The good was that the frame and the drives as well as the engine are great there is no damage to the majors at all.  I made her a winter project and basically took her to nothing and this is what I made.  As long as a guy is this deep in it its hard to stop so I spent a lot of time reading the great info found on this site about the CVO's and put many of your highly suggested options on her sparing no expense.  She has now body parts all over and since the new parts were unpainted ( I wanted that way ) this was my opportunity to do a paint scheme that I have always wanted.

The bike is painted after the 06 SEUC scheme because I wanted people to look at her and say that's an 06 but something is not normal the color is all wrong.  I went to a great friend of mine named Troy at TRW Auto Body in Mosinee WI (He deserves that plug). We discussed the project in great detail and the basic to what we did is the top is a true candy red called winefire.  The color is a candy color so it had a base color of pearl metallic silver than 8 coats of color to give the red color and depth.  The striping is all hand done with shadowing around the silver and than outlined by hand.  The color below the stripe fades from the candy red winefire to Black cherry and that is a great trick because those colors are not in the same family so the buttom has a mist of charcoal than color over and the fade is done by more layers of red starting at 10 layers under the stripe to over 22 layers at the bottom making is very deep and dark.  Guy's, she's pretty!!!!!!!!!!

Couple of hundred hours later I did not save any money infact I could have bought a good used 06 for less but this thing is fun and I know all of her.  Still more that I want to do but maybe this winter.  8000 miles this summer so far and all is well, but I wonder if anyone on this site might know anything about her past life as I am afraid to call anyone about it as the way she looked I hope the past owner is OK.  Well enough here are some pics. One per post so I will post a bunch.

Thanks
Mike  ;D ;D

She looks great!  I have the autumn/haze and love mine.  I really like your choice of colour :2vrolijk_21:  To bad that wasn't one of our choices.  She is now your bike and the work you have done is amazing.  Enjoy

That's friggen awesome!  I'm partial to red.  Changing it to that color was like adding cams, ported heads, and a stage 1.  You made it so much faster by just changing the color.

The original doesn't look horrible.  I've seen a lot worse that folks walked away from unscathed.  Many have posted pics here.  I hope it never happens me (or anyone else).

Great looking 06 SEUC...you did a great job of keeping the "theme" but going to a one of a kind paint job.  Great job!   :2vrolijk_21:
