rog...I've been useing Amsoil 20W50 synthetic since I bought my FXR4 in Oct 2006...No problems :2vrolijk_21:

Same here since May of 2003.  20w50 in the engine and primary and 75w90 in the transmission.  Amsoil.  No issues.  The trans shifts much more positively than the Syn3 that I tried briefly.

I run Mobil 1 15-50 in my FXR4. It's almost the same or might even be the same as their V-Twin 20-50 ($9/qt). You can get the 15-50 at Walmart for $5/qt. as well as Fram oil filters.

Yea...I just bought as usual, my Amsoil 20W50 engine and primary and 75W90 for tranny and will continue to do so cause I've had no problems.

I was in Walmart also and noticed the Mobile 1 15-50 and wondered if it would be a good substitute? I'm not changing cause I love my Amsoil; just curious...How long you been running the 15-50 there big Mike? What are you running in your Primary and Tranny?  Anyone else used a weight of oil less than whats recommended? :2vrolijk_21:

I ran the Mobil 1 15w50 for several years in my Dyna before Mobil came out with the V-Twin stuff, absolutely no problems.  As for the "weight" issue, the difference between the two is that a 15W50 will flow slightly better in cold temps than the 20w50.  Both have the same viscosity at high temps.  In other words, viscosity isn't an issue.  The V-Twin product supposedly has a slightly different additive package.
