...
FWIW, the pipes will hit backing up, but if you miss them and lean over it can easily hit the bag.  In a riding lean, the bike would hit many other pieces well before it would hit the rear corner of a saddlebag.

...does this mean I'm off the hook?  :bananarock:...I was envisioning this upcoming test ride triggering a call to my State Farm agent

yesterday did 350 miles to and from the beach on the back roads, this Wednesday is the ride in the twisty mountains for the lean test...didn't want to do it solo yesterday for fear of not being found for days in a gully somewhere

Sorry Carlos, it's only an assumption until it is proven.  You've got to complete the experiment to validate my theory is sound.  Ride on, but stay safe!

The only twisties left in Chicago is Lower Wacker Drive......The famous "S" curves were taken out of Lake Shore Drive decades ago.

Carlos....it's all you, man!!

Let's take a vote.......floorboard brakets or saddlebags......!!
I'm picking floorboard brakets, same as what we've experienced in the past.

But I'm not buying the reason for these skid plates is for curb protection while parking, either.

I would have to say that the skid plates on the bottom of the saddle bags are for CURB protection. How many of you have backed your bike into a spot, put your kick stand down and leaned your bike over only to find out that your back to far and you just crunched your pipe or saddle bag? I have not seen the "Skid plate" in person so I am just offering one possible explanation.

Makes perfect sense to me, I am always worried about scraping my bags or exhaust when I back my Street Glide into a spot on bike night.
