Recently carried my bike to Augusta HD for the 20K service.  They used synthetic fluids and replaced the rear pads.  Bill was $478.00.  Is that about what everyone else is payin'?

I just had mine done at a "small shop" in Carthage, Mo. not only was he cheaper than the two HD shop's I checked with I walked out feeling like he really treated my bike like it was his own. I paid $320.00 used synthetic, had the rear pads replaced and had the saddle bags repositioned. The only thing he didn't do was change the fork oil. HD in Spfd wanted $555.00, HD in Joplin wanted $475.00.

Posted price at Savannah HD for the 20K check-up was just under $500 so that sounds about right. FYI, I just had all fluids and filter changed for about $150 at the dealership.

You do not have to have any of the services done a the dealer to keep the warranty valid. As others stated just keep the receipts and a dated log of the service items you performed. All of the service items and intervals are outlined in the service manuals

Tommy I know what you mean, but I cant sleep at night knowing someone other than myself that I dont know or trust has his mitts on my steel. I do what I can and watch over the rest.

Exactly why I do it all myself. Besides, the money you spend on service sure does buy you a lot of tools.

I agree, however, I now hate wrenching.  My bike is serviced buy a good friend at his house, who happens to be the head mechanic at the local HD dealer.  He has been a HD wrench for 20 years now.  He built the motor in my 03 fatboy, 94 hp and 100 torque, and I now have 35K trouble free miles on that build.
