This might be a dumb question but notice the new perforated FXRG jacket has a windproof liner. WTF for? What a great deal at $650, I have the previous perforated HD jacket and I think it was $350. But it didn't come with a $300 liner. ;D

"Perforated" and "Perforated FXRG" makes the $ 300 difference. Actually at the new FXRG line you'll get less for more ;-)

I am having a real hard time spending $540.00 on the 09 FXRG coat when I can get a Epic Tourmaster coat for $279.00 not to mention the pants and some real nice boots. One piece of safety equipment I won't sacrifice for the price is the Shoei X-eleven helmet for $540.00

Any thoughts on the price analogy for the FXRG gear versus Tourmanter Epic coat?

It seems it is a little worse than that: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/39/16894/ITEM/Tour-Master-Epic-Jacket.aspx

At $250, that is quite a jacket, I know a bunch of BMW riders that really like that jacket. Plus it is available in :bananarock:

I have an FXRG jacket. As MJZ mentioned, it is the best leather jacket I have bought overall, but a bit heavy. The zipper (original style) is crap, and I had it replaced twice (comes with 5 year warranty). I also like that the "branding" across the back is minimal. Not everything needs to have the moco label on it, which is why I was hoping for a score with Mark's Foxcreek.

As to the zipper, up until last year they came with a rather thin and flimsy plastic zipper. 1st time it broke (both the main and on one sleeve) it was repaired by HD at n/c. The second time they would only replace the jacket!

Mine is broken in just right so I had it replaced on my own, got a new heavy duty brass zipper installed for $45.

I got mine during a 20% sale, and had a $50 coupon to use (new bike purchase)
As for pants, I have yet to score a pair of FXRG for my self (2 so far for my wife), too much $.

A few years ago at a bike show Stone Lake Leather was selling a nice pair of leather bibs.
Except for the color (dark brown) I really like these, no open area like chaps. Very well made and comfortable. A year after buying them they came out with an insulated liner option. $100 extra to have them made, worth the investment, and the liner is removable.

Only problem with the bibs is the extra time involved at pit stops, but for my skinny butt the extra protection is worth it.

This tourmaster looks good, but if I was buying a style like this I would spend the extra for the Gerbings heated version.

Why?

Because it gets friggin cold up here. Already have heated vest, pants, gloves, socks, grips, seat and have the new heated insoles coming - why not just use a heated jacket too. Ozzie has one, swears by it (when he remembers to plug it in  :2vrolijk_21:)

I love my Gerbings - was out in 23 yesterday, with glove liners and my FXRG over it...was sweating when I got to work.

Toes were frozen off...gotta work on that now.

More specifically.........are they really that much better?  I wouldn't know chit from chinola when it comes to heated gear, but I do know I'd like a set of heated gloves.  Don't much more down here.

You know Henry, when you are actually wearing the gloves you really don't notice them after a bit, sometimes you almost wonder are they really working. That is until you take them off for a second or two.

Out in the breeze they may not feel like an electric blanket turned up high, but then again your fingers aren't hurting because they are so cold.

My days of alternating sticking my hands on top of the heads or near the pipes are over  :2vrolijk_21:

My FX jacket is the warmest I have had yet. Not just that is is good jacket, but it fits me well also. They is key to keeping the air inside and not circulating (kind of like the difference between a wetsuit and dry suit for the diver guy types).

And I can add the heated vest to it which makes it even better.

My thought for the heated Gerbing jacket is that it would be great on trips,

Thin outer shell, separate insulated liner, heat and it doubles as rain gear.
One jacket would replace the leather, rain gear and extra vest for trips.

When riding to work it would be nice to have the all heated gear so I don't have to change from riding clothes to my cheesecloth thin work uniform

That is exactly why I need a set.  Although today is beautiful, it was cold this morning, and by the time I got to Guntersville, my fingers were nonfunctional.  Couldn't feel anything from the second knuckle down.

Gerbing makes two versions of the gloves, I have the older style, which is "supposed" to be a bit warmer because it is a bit bulkier. But it is not any bulkier then any of the other heavy gloves. Definitely not as bulky as the HD winter gloves I have which are of no use.

Harley sells the older version of the Gerbing glove with the HD brand on it.
