2400 miles to Northern Cali and back
« on: September 29, 2008, 11:03:33 AM »

AWESOME! what more can I say?
Left Seattle 6:30 pm Thursday September 18 arrived in Battlegtround, WA by 9 pm.
7 AM departure for Crater Lake Natrional Park, Oregon in 38 degrees and light snow!
Detours due to forest fires got us into the park early afternoon.
An absolutely amazing natural wonder- a lake in the crater of Mt. Mazama. Formed 8 thousand years ago when this volcano erupted and blew the top. So much molten rock was expelled that the summit area collapsed during the eruption to form a large volcanic depression, or caldera. Subsequent smaller eruptions occurred as water began to fill the caldera to eventually form the deepest lake in the United States. The walls of this 5+ mile diameter lake create a rim drive of over 34 miles with crater walls of rock or ancient magma and 1,000 feet above the 2,000 feet deep lake! Check this site for details http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/2002/fs092-02/

Spent the week in and around Clear Lake Oaks, California and did a 200 mile day trip through Mendocino county with a route throught the amazing Redwood Forest-WOW!

Ride Safe!

Beautiful areas, we were in the Redwoods, Reno, Jamestown, San Simion with JC and the Nor Cal group the week before. If you ever have a chance hook up with JC he sure knows the roads. There were times we thought we were headed up someones driveway, but no they were just back roads that kept us all off the freeways and highways. 3000 miles on that trip.
We need more pictures. You were in some great areas, show and tell. Sorry we missed you by a week.

As a matter of fact.......we had a bathroom stop in Clearlake Oaks.  One bathroom for both men and women, so we were there for awhile. ;D

Crater Lake is beautiful.....words can't describe.  This is one of those places that a photo says 1,000 words.

A very spritual adventure and amazing scenery. Here's Wizard Island and me at the edge.
