09 180 TIRE HANDLING?
« on: October 08, 2008, 09:17:07 PM »

What does anyone think of the 09s. With the new frame and the wider tire how is the handling? I haven't got a chance to ride one yet but I'm hoping to take a demo ride on one this weekend.

I really like it. Seems to track better on the road. The steel bridges around here don't wobble me all over the place anymore when I go over them. So far so good.

How about the high speed curve wobbles are they now cured?

have a 07 flhx and my new cvo cuse4

The new cvo will handle circle around my X even with progressive shocks and alloy art frame system.A little more time on the cvo and I might even start to drag the floor boards around.I do that with the x

All in all   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: on the cvo

I don't know that I ever had that. Maybe I did. When I was in the mountains (dragon and the like) my front end felt like it was pulsing or hopping a little in the corner. Haven't noticed that yet, but haven't been to the mountains yet!

Handles like butter, now that I got over 2400 miles on it, eats the twisties up. other riders have told me they see a difference in MY corners.

I have been told many times that if I get an Ultra, I won't be able to maneuver it like I could my Road King.  Day 1 with my 09 SE Ultra, I could make smaller circles than I ever could on my 07 RK.  I am unbelievably pleased with the way this bike handles.  It feels more like a 400 lb bike than 900 lbs.  The only thing I don't like is when I hit any kind of pothole or the like.  You take a big hit when the back tire hits one.

Good question.  I just got the bike 2 weeks ago and that I have not checked.  What's a good pressure to run for myself and still be able to haul a passenger if I can find one that will ride in the cold weather?  I'm thinking that I kept my last bike around 10 lbs but now I can't remember.  Does that sound correct?  Perhaps it's time to pull the manual out for suggestions.

Looks like I need to get a life.  I just noticed that I made full member on here in 2 weeks.

Before we talk how much air, I will say, get the hand air pump from Harley 39 bucks, don't mess around with the bicycle pump and DO NOT use compressed air. Now I will move on.
The 09's have a much higher rating on the pressure. and personal preference has a lot to do with it.
READ THE MANUAL
I'm running 20lbs right  now, solo always, good compression resistance on hard curves, roles over obstacles smooth. but the manual say can go up to 50lbs. oh, by the way, did I mention READ THE MANUAL

Ya know what I was thinking?  Maybe I should read the manual.  It's probably in the manual.  Maybe I should look there.  I think I'll look in the manual.  Why didn't you mention that I should look at the manual?  I'm glad I beat you to that idea.  LOL

What's the problem with compressed air?  Condensation from moist air being pumped in?  If it's anything like my RK was, I think I needed to take the saddlebag off to even get to it.  I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow.  I'll put that pump on my list.  Thanks!

You can damage the air ride system way to easy.

Yep, most compressors are set much higher than 40 psig. Even if they were, you'd never be able to control it. There's not much volume of air in the shock system. You put the chuck on, and you'll almost immediately over pressurize the system and can blow the pneumatics apart. ;)
