16" Carlini Flyin' apes on my 2008 SERK-questions?
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:46:35 PM »

I know they make the TBW extensions but what about the ABS and hydraulic clutch on the 08 SERK? Can I put a set of 16" Carlini apes on my 2008 SERK without having any problems with the ABS system or hydraulic clutch? Can I get the longer clutch & brake lines at the dealers? Thanks!

I've been looking at the 14's myself. Gonna change the bushings as well. Performance (Dan) seemed to have a handle on what he needed.  :nixweiss: Are you looing at the regular, flyin' or gangster bars?

You can't put 16's on without extending on a SERK. I put 12.5's on my '07 SERK and needed throttle cables, brakeline, hydraulic clutch line, and extend all electric wiring to the switches. It would be the same on yours except you'd use the TBW extenders as you said. I'm not sure if the hydraulic line is different on ABS/vs non-ABS, but if it is, someone like Goodridge must offer it. They made my hydraulic clutch line for me custom when none were offered yet for my SERK.  Aren't the sensors and connections for the ABS at the caliper? Is the main brakeline anything special? You can see I'm not familiar with the ABS system, but you'll need to extend it whether it's the same or not. ;)

Thanks Howie. I am looking at the flyin' apes. They have an 11" pullback vs a 7" on the gangster apes. They both look great and much better than others I've looked at. I'll give PHD a call in the am and see if Dan will educate me. Been looking for a how-to for the TBW bikes as I would think this could be done yourself and would be easier with no throttle cables to mess with-maybe not. BTW, my hardbags and tour pak are at Gene & Pams now getting painted. I'll post some pics when I get em back.

Thanks Hoist! The ABS sensors are all at the caliper so it should just be a brake and clutch line replacement along with a TBW extension.
