VPC AND ME
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:39:30 AM »

This has not been brought up in awhile so I tought I would though it out again. I just installed a VPC 83T I had used on many other bikes and checked with Hippo to make sure it would work on the 09 SERG 110". Got the OK from him and installed it. First time I have owned a hydrolic clutch so did not know what to exspect. WOW lever pull seemed to drop by half, no more sore old hand. This is a great investment for the people that have bad hands, or want an easy pull clutch.  Doc

That's actually good data to keep in the back of one's mind Doc.  Clutch may not be a problem for my hands now.  Doesn't mean it won't be someday :2vrolijk_21:

Not only that, but the lock up allows you to run a higher hp motor with out getting a new massive clutch to hold it, it's about a third the price.  :2vrolijk_21:

Did it again.  Damn.  Wrote a perfectly good post and had to remove it before anyone else could see it.  No sense in letting anyone else have the satisfaction of yanking it after all :drink: .

Dang I missed it, and then it was gone.

I also run the VPC, but it is the 92T in the roadking.   Pull is slightly diminished, but not a major change.

I will most likely be putting one on the Cherry if I keep it.   Been debating on project MKII or 09 Silver Road Glide using Cherry as trade in /hate the 110 love the new ride / frame.

Have installed at least 75 of these units.
Seem to be a very good set-up, and less expensive, than a whole clutch kit, when you are in need of the ability for the clutch to handle more.
The large one will handle most street power.

For all of you guys considering the VPC I would contact Hippo at HippoVPC@gmail.com he will explain to all the benefits and ease of install.

Have had the various VPC units for engines from stock 88s to built up Jims 120 all worked excellent. A few years ago i scanned and posted a write up from Hot Bike or Bagger magazines on the VPC, however I could not find it.

What kind of prices for these VPCs?
Which would be the best for a fairly stock 110(stage one w/ 575 cams)
Thanks

Try the site below, you may find it cheaper somewhere else, but it will give you an idea, and info on the right unit for you.

I have arthritis too so I can totally relate.  Thanks for the tip and here's one from me: try taking glucosamine & chondroitin pills. Makes enough difference for me that I don't take prescription anti-inflammatory drugs any more.  YMMV.

Tros how long you been participating in F@H and how many comps you dedicated to the research?

I had to look it up, LOL,  I started in June 2004.  Most of the folks on the team really went at it for a couple years then it kinda fell apart.  At one time we were ranked in the mid 600's.  I returned to Folding in January of this year after feeling guilty for laying off for so long.  I've been trying to motivate the other team members to do the same.

Currently I'm running one PC I built with PNY nVidia 9800GT video card and I use the video card to F@H.  So much faster than using just the Intel E8400, 3ghz CPU.  I first tried F@H on the video card exclusively on Feb 8th and have logged over 22,000 points since just with the 9800GT.  I've only had it running on the 8 - 10th and again on 13 - 15 and half of today.

Here's the link for the team  http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=37395.  I'm Nowhere_man.

Honestly with all the folks on this forum a formidable F@H team could be assembled.  If I can't get my old teamates  going again, I'd be inclined to join.

Here's another stats page to show what just one person (me), F@H with a decent video card  can do. About 4K PPD.

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=37395

Looking at the last 7 days production, the only score that isn't mine is the 1443 on the 12th.  That's not counting all of today's as the pages lag behind actual production.

PlayStation 3's are good for F@H too.

I am interested in the VPC unit as well.  Great info here to help with my decision.

Question,

I talked to AIM support and they said I would have to install a derby cover spacer for clearance?

I have a 2007 SE (FLHTCUSE2) with the stock SE derby cover.  Anyone else have to use this spacer?

Thanks/JPB

JPB,

The only stock covers that work with the VPC are the chrome dome style like off my 02 Deuce. Here is a link to a guy that will make a spacer the thickness you need for clearance. He also makes some nice parts (discounts with multiple purchase.)  Just scrowl down to the last item at the bottom of the page. Give him a call with any questions. I have some of his work and it is really nice.
