One thing leads to another
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:35:41 PM »

A few weeks back Melanie got a "Hog Pod" for the FLHX and asked me to put it on. Then she saw JCZ's pics of Terrie's painted inner fairing and asked if I could take that off and get them all painted. I won't bother you with the details of how one thing led to another, you know how that goes, but here is the final list and some pics. Took a couple of weeks of working on it here and there after work.

Hog Pod
Painted inner fairing, cap and Hog Pod, Repaint outer Fairing
Sony marine stereo with blue face to match the blue Dakota digital gauges
Hawg Wired CX  speakers
Hawg wired Sony head unit plug and cradle
Braided clutch and throttle cables
Braided brake lines
Stock Chrome SEUC bars take offs (Thanks Jim - hd_dude)
Internally wire the bars (Jim) (also wired in the arnott air system wires)
Full upper bar clamp
Kuryakyn Boss blade levers (close pull)
Windvest windscreen
Gilbo's Ipod mount
Speaker trim rings
Probably a bunch of other stuff

Note the Sony data cable plug to the IPod. Hand controls now control the IPod. cool. Radio doesn't show very blue in these pics.

Sweet!

I love the looks of the Dakota Digital guages. I just can't justify the cost for me, personally. They are slick, though. The Sony marine radio ties in very nicely, much better than the orange HD LCD.

That's a slick setup. Congrats!

Went with the CDX M (marine) 501 IP (IPod). The colors can be switched from red to blue. For $119 online it's a great head unit for the price. I think there is one out now that's blue tooth compatible. Not sure of it's blue tooth functions but at least with a bluetooth adaptor for the IPod, one could go cable less. Two downsides to Sony's built in IPod data cable are; the cable is hardwired to the unit instead of a plug in, and the data/charger cable plug (to IPod) is 4x the thickness as Apples OEM plug. It does have the F RA holes though

Thanks for all your help and vote of confidence Jim! I'm just glad I didn't have to do the "tow of shame" to your shop  :)
And no, I haven't forgotten about the micro brew amber I owe you  :P
And yes, Melanie's very happy. And when she's happy, we're all happy  :huepfenjump3:

Thanks Don. Funny you should ask that! I did have 2 - 2 1/2" chrome bolts left over. Kept going over the bike for an Hour before finally figuring out they held the tank console on. DUH
