My new Shoei Multitec helmets with J&M Elite Series headsets
« on: March 27, 2009, 01:32:54 PM »

I've been looking at flip up helmets for Judy and I for about a year now.  Even ordered two Nolan N-103's but ended up sending them back.  The shell fit great but the chin section was up against my chin when closed.  My have gotten use to it but didn't want to take that chance!

After trying on the Shoie Multitec at the International MC Show in Greenville SC I decided to order two.  Best feeling helmet I've ever had on!  Bought them from 3D Cycles in Bangor Maine.  Bought the J&M Elite headsets from Sierra Electronics in Troy Ohio.

When I started to install the head sets they looked like they wouldn't fit.  Called J&M and was told "They won't fit the Shoei Multitec".  After looking at their ad again I noticed it said "fits most flip up helmets".  Chit!  Called Sierra and told them I needed to return the heatsets and was told "Sure, they'll fit.  We install them in the Multitec all the time".  My next question was how much?  "$70.00".  Put um in FedX that day.

Here's a few pics of helmets with headsets.

Hey Tom, these helmets have an anti fog like the 103? Sun shield?

I tried 103's on at the NYC bike show, liked the helmet but there were no deals there. Found them on eBay for 290 but still haven't decided. Would like to try on a few different helmets.

Speakers sit deep enough so they don't hit your ears?

Duane,
Doesn't have the sun shield like the Nolan.  The Shoei sells a pin lock visor that you can buy as an accessory which you connect the anti fog shield to.

3D Cycles sells the helmet on Ebay for $446(?).  But if you call them, they'll make you a deal.

I had a Shoei a couple of years ago, damn fine helmet but pinched the hell out of my cheeks. It was the model before the Multitec, I understand the Multitec corrected that problem of offering custom fitting by allowing the purchase of multiple size snap in pads. Great idea and it my now be the best flip face around but I went with the Nolan 103 last week for $300 from ridersdiscount.com This is my 3rd Nolan but the other 2 were 102's, I really like the inside shade on the 103 and the venting is better, plus the Nolan fit my head perfectly.

Hey Mark - have you tried it out yet on the highway? One of the reviews I read seemed less then favorable with noise and drafts coming up under the helmet.
I was planning on a pair of these for my wife and I.
