Stock seat has got to go!!
« on: October 15, 2005, 11:26:29 PM »

Well. I went on my first long distance run yesterday since getting the bike and that stock seat has got to go. Only about 300 miles all tolled and it was like sitting on a brick. I'd like to get some input on seats. I talked to someone on here about the Mustang. I mostly ride 2 up with the wife behind me and I want her to be comfortable too. so, Lets here it. And dont go talking about a thousand dollar seat, I dont need heat, I live in AZ. Comfort and style. Thanks.

You might look at the zepplin 52333-97D
It has an air compressor that you can adjust 3 pressure points for the rider and 2 points for the passenger.

The price is steep but it is a comfortable ride.

I've got the Sundowner for a RK, I like it fine - thicker and wider for the rider, same size for the passenger, but the wife says it's firmer than the stock seat for the passenger area. Since most of my riding is solo with occasional two-up. looking at the Air Hawk air pillows for her.

My, I know we discussed this before, what Mustang seat is it? Do you have a part number? Is there just one? I know the Road King seats fit the SEEG. Thanks, I hafta get it now to satisfy momma and me. My butts actually sore, but the ride was fantastic, after the hot summer we had it was nice to get the leathers on and lay out some miles. ML

Get the one piece for the roadking. Get the plain seat. If you get the one with the black buttons they will pull out.

The web address for the mustang seat for the road king, that definately fits your SEEg is at http://www.mustangseats.com/roadking97/roadking97.shtml

My husband had it on his road king while I was passenger, I and he loved it.  Then he moved it to his seeg and it has issues, but not comfort issues. Hope this helps you.  It is a great product for the price.

CVOwner,

I bought the Sunray Heated seat from HD. I love it! It is simmular to the Sundowner seat by HD. I have always heard about Corbin and Mustang seats and never got to give er a good test ride. Then Laker was selling his Mustang seat Part # 75486. He bought it and was not a good fit for his long legs so I got it from him. It did set me foward slightly but I noticed it sat me up more than the Sunray seat.
I let my Buddy 1stHD74in74 try out my Sunray Heated seat before he laid out the cash for it. While he had it I used the Mustang seat and really like it. I like the fact that I can use the stock rider backrest with it. I use a king tour pak when momma rides with me so I can't tell you if the passenger backrest will fit.
With the weather cooling off I put the Sunray heated back on and It came in handy this past Saturday when I left the house it was 42*. The crack on my backside was grinnin like a mule eating briar! Rode to Hotsprings Ar. and put on over 500 miles. Last 50 miles I was kinda feeling need to change positons. I believe the Mustang seat is firmer and would been more comfortable on longer rides because of it. But too bad it 's not heated.
Anyway, I would let you try out this seat to see if you like it before you spend the money on a new one and end up like Laker and find out it's not for you. I will try to post a picture on my bike for ya. Let me know if I can help. God Bless!

JR......thanks for the review.  I like the "looks" of the seat in the photo (the deep pocket) which looks simular to a Saddleman Seat, by the way.  What I don't need, at 6'4" is a seat that's going to move me any further forward.

When riding alone, I use the stock seat........the "look good" at all costs, baby! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  But two up, I currently use the Comfort Stitch seat (and I still use my stock backrest just because it's thinner and more supportive).

I sold the Corbin that I had custom made and really regreat that!  I'd buy that one back in a heartbeat, for what I sold it for.

Mike,

The way I see it is if you can afford a $30,000 bike you wouldn't try and steal a $300 seat. Especially when the guy is generious enough to let you try it to see if that seat is right for you. I consider the people on this site "Family" and if you steal in "my family" it won't be a horses head you wake up to!! ;D

Offer still stands, I will let you try out the seat, If you like it and want to buy the seat I will take $300 for it, If it's not right for you, send er back!

Laker,

I lost all pics when my computer crashed so I will go out and take a pic for you. It sits back a little more than the Mustang and am able to use the stock rider backrest. I really like the heat especially going into this time of the year. Heater has 3 settings. Let me see how them pics will turn out and will post em.

Does the bra over the console attach to the seat?

And, is your King Pak in the standard position on the quick release bracket?

JR - thanks for taking the time to post the pics. The seat looks great!! I guess I will need to try that one out next. By the way, that sign in the garage is a very nice touch. Did you make it?

Hey Matt! [smiley=2vrolijk_09.gif]

If CVOwner decides to send me back my Mustang seat I will let you try out the Sunray heated seat of mine to see if you like it. [smiley=yes.gif]

The sign on the wall is actually a decal. Neighbors thought I painted it on my wall. It is a decal that goes on them enclosed trailers (You know, like the one 103 uses ;D). I was going to put it on my garage floor and personalize it with my name and stuff. I was looking on ebay and found this and several others. Emailed the lil gal and asked if she can add some print to it. She asked what I had in mind so I emailed her a picture of what I wanted and asked if she could color in the shield in yellow. She came back and said no problem and gave me a better drawing of what it would look like.

As I was cleaning the garage out for my daughters wedding I decided to put it on that nice white wall instead of the floor. It turned out better than I could ever imagine and It only cost me like $70. Here's a little better picture of how it turned out. God Bless!

That sign looks even better close up. What a great touch for your garage. Thanks for the offer on trying out the seat. I have a buddy in the parts dept. at my local HD dealer that usually breaks things out of the box and lets me throw it on my bike in the parking lot. I wasn't able to do that with the Mustang as they don't stock them. If that is not a possibility then I might take you up on your offer. Thanks.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Those really look sharp against the yellow JR.  That contrast is simply outstanding.  I actually had a set of those for the red bike before the bike ever arrived.  Holding them up against the bike though they really didn't do much.  Just not much effect appearance-wise and I wasn't wild about what it did do.  So I never installed them.  Against the yellow though; in a New York minute!  That's nice  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Does the Sunray seat move you foreward or do you remain in the same location as the stock seat on an 04 SEEG? Looking for a seat for the Nelson ride just incase Kathy rides on the back. I have gotten so accustomed to the stock seat that I don't want to change.

Same question for the Corbin dual touring seat.

Brian, I have to Corbin Dual Tour w/ oval backrests on my bike when my wife wants to ride.  She says it is extremely comfortable.  Can post a photo if you want to see what it looks like installed.  Moves me a little forward but I think it is about the same as the stock seat.  The Corbin stinger I normally use puts me back about an inch or so from stock.

Brian, I put one of the Sunray heated seats on my SEEG just prior to MV this year.

Seat looks nice, I am in the process of purchasing the comfort stitch for roadking from harley, for the passenger, it seems to be the best, we purchased a gel pad in Sturgis and she can sit on most anything with that between her and the seat. I cant beleive I started this thread a year ago october and it pops up again, and I still dont have the seat yet! I like the stock seat, but she dont, and when were together she can go all day long if the seat is comfortable, but if it aint, fugetaboutit!

Went back through all 59 pages for the  SEEG's looking for seats. Found this thread. Looks like the Corbin touring seat with or without heat is the leader so far.

I have no problems with the stock seat but this trip to Nelson is going to cost me one way or another.  Ship bikes or buy new seats [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Oh well like the old saying   " You can't take it with you "

D00d,  Kathy has a Mustang low profile solo seat. It makes me feel like I am eating the windshield.

I would much rather keep the stock seat, but if we ride together to Nelson on my scoot she needs a passanger seat that she will be comfy on.

Have to keep her happy [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Now they yell me that the studs pull out! Well does anybody have any ideas how to fix this problem, with Mustang seats.
Just had 1 stud pull out and the company i bought the seat from has said they will replace the seat, Mustang will not repair it if you bought it from a dealer other than them. Problem is that i also bought the sissy bar pad and drivers backrest
with studs, warranty wont last forever and this looks like an ongoing problem.
Any ideas would help, i thought about asking the company i bought from if i could get the same seat w/o studs and just have to eat the other stuff.

Thanks

Now this is what I call someone going beyond the call of duty!!!!!!!

I tried to get up with Pete 4854 while I was in Va for the hollidays. We were unable to meet up with each other. After I returned home the cell phone rang. It was Pete. He was going to bring his Corbin seat down for Kathy and I to try it out.

That is what I love about this site [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Again thank you Pete, you went way out of your way. And thank you Neil for putting together this site.

Hogasm

ps.  I think I am going with the Corbin, now can't make up my mind to go with heat or not.

By all means go w/ the heat. Even if the weathers warm that heat under your butt feels sooooooooo goooooooooooood about the 10th hour into a 14 hr ride!

Yea, B...even if you don't use the heat much, it's there when you need it, and with the bride on back, she'll like it.  As much as you ride, and with some of the places you go, the heat will be used if it's there. You might need it in Canada this year for sure!!  It's another one of those things that you don't think you need 'till you have it...

Rode down to Orlando to see Unballanced and his lovely wife. U. and I rode to Corbin to try out the heated version of seat that Pete let me try. I could feel no difference in the way the seat felt in the two. I guess in the long run the heated version would take longer to break in, but would probably wear out sooner since there is less pading because of the heating element.

Can't make up my mind yet.

Brian, I had 125,000 miles on two Corbins on the Road Kings prior to the SEEG.  Went straight from them to the SEEG.  My ass notices no real difference between the prior non-heated versions and this heated one after the break in time was done.  The heated one does 800-1000 miles does as readily as did the ones before.

CVO,
you're gonna like the comfort stitch.  I had one,  sold it to buy a Corbin.......they raised prices through the roof and decided not to get one.  I have the road blimp that the MoCo sells and couldn't be happier with it.

Good luck.

This comfort stitch is the way to go. Mustang was too damn hard. I really like the back support too. Kinda big, dont really like the look. I like the look of the stock seat but oh man, that sucker is like no comfort!

This comfort stitch is the way to go. Mustang was too damn hard. I really like the back support too. Kinda big, dont really like the look. I like the look of the stock seat but oh man, that sucker is like no comfort!

That's what I use when I have the King Tour Pack on the bike....

I tried the comfort stitch.  My wife loved it, I wasnt comfortable.  It put me too far forward, my legs are too dam long I guess, but dont recall this issue when I took an ultra out for a long test drive last year.  I bought it from Big Moose HD here in Maine and they are letting me switch it out to a plain sundowner (and I got 15% off to boot)-Im sorry Ive complained about them previously.  I think if I get the tour pack relocator, the precious cargo may be happy.  If not, will go back to the comfort stitch for two up. I actually have grown to like the stock seat, but thats a complete no go for she who makes me happy. Thanks.

I really like the stock seat as long as I'm riding one mile or less. Just ordered my second Corbin last week, they take a little while to break in but they are worth it. JMHO :2vrolijk_21:

Yes the stock seat is less that desirable! I just bought a Mustang and took it on a ten day 3200 mile trip. I thought the seat was not much better than the stock one but my girl friend said she was much more comfy. I also tried my buddy's roadking sundowner before buying the Mustang and I didnt care much fot it either.  I'm 6ft, 200lbs. and just cant get my rear comfortable on this bike. ???

Got my new Corbin waiting for the bike to come out of the shop so I can put it on. That stock seat killed me on the last long trip. Stock seat is going in a bag and in line with the other stock seats I have replaced with Corbin's 3 now.

Im 6'1", 215 #, 32" inseam.  I have the heated Corbin dual tour on mine (flame pattern).  It should do you nicely.  Several others and myself have it on the 05's and are very happy, just not with the $900 cost.

Gashog,
I went with the Sundowner for my 05 SEEG and love it.  You have to get the model that fits the Streetglide....std FLHT seats do not fit the SEEGS.   The design pattern of it is almost identical to the SEEG stock seat.  My butt never hurts on it.  Now I have to find a comfy seat for the SEUC.

I hate the stock 06" CUSE seat and my wife loves it.  It has to be the worst seat I have ever sat on not to mention the seat bunches up under the backrest.  Replaced it with a Sunray and the tables turned.  Fine for me aweful for her.  I guess if I want heat the only choice now is Corbin.  I just have a hard time contributing to robbery.

Hey Mr Bag,
They do have heating pads as an add-on part that slides under the cover of any seat and then the cover is replaced and no one is the wiser.  I am also trying to figure out what to get but I have priced the Corbin seats and the price keeps staring me in the face...almost 1500...I get close to ordering then I think...1500 friggin dollars...and my common sense...or fear of my wife's beitching gets the better of me.

Seegarz :-\

Keep me posted on your decision

Corbin heated two up is down to under $700.00. A lot better price than last year. I bought mine last October in Ocala. They also gave me a nice discount for all the chit I've bought from them over the years.

I'm pretty sure Corbin sets up at the glendale stadium during AZ bike week in march. (if you call them in Hollister they'll tell you for sure) 800-538-7035, the guy I dealt with was Philip Ruiz. They "usually" have event discounts..
Good Luck.  The seat is AWSOME for "ME".

Deffinately alot of information on a variety of seats.... this site is the best. I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, I bought a 05 SE seat from AK and have it on my 06 street glide. Came accross country with it, and now have close to 27,000 on that seat and bike. Works great for me, I'm on the short side of 5'7" and am usually riding solo. For what its worth..... I love this site  :2vrolijk_21:

I ride a very expensive bike, but, I'm not an idiot. I can afford whatever I want. No seat is worth that. What do they got inside? Space age foam? Come on!

Mustang was supposed to be a very good seat, hard as a rock, 10K miles and it never softened up, was never comfortable. Thats why It was sold here on the website. I'm not going through the same thing with the Corbin, but for more money. I got more smarts than that.

Ya know Howie - when I was looking for a new bike my first choice was going to be a Night Train, just liked the way it looked, and in my mind I had pictured black powder coat or black chrome on everything except the fork tubes. Then using the chrome bolt covers here and there for a bit of contrast.

Not that it mattered much, but Deb's first reaction was "oh no", not another black bike, too many black vehicles have been in our driveway
Black CJ, black Monte SS, black Dakota, black Lincoln, black Low Rider black ........................ there were a few more in there too, you get the picture.

Getting the red bike was a big step.

So, I can understand why it took the MoCo so long to make a black CVO, it's just another black bike  :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Earlier Duane had written that he was selling because it didn't allow the tour pak to be placed on the bike and because the stealth (useless) luggage rack we have doesn't fit with the seat either.  That it's funny lookin' had nothin' to do with it dammit :huepfenlol2: !

Too true man, too true.  Can remember other little old lady type vehicles that got oil change actually because of time rather than mileage too .

I "upgraded" my 1998 Goad Glide's seat to a Corbin.  I feel that my present bike's seat is more comfortable than the Corbin was.  The Corbin was too hard for my taste.  My longest ride so far on this bike has only been about an hour and a half, so this is only my initial impression.

We have a young lady in one of our HOG chapters who has so strategically placed raised and pointed studs into her seat.   :o Oh My!

She never rides farther than a couple of hours.  ;) She IS always smiling though.  :D

I am sorry to hear that you are not as pleased with the mile after mile comfort and support that I get from my Corbin seat, but am so happy that the stock seat works for you.  :huepfenjump3:

Back when all HD's were solid mounted, she wouldn't have had to add the studs as that's when the term 'Milwaukee Vibrator' was affectionately given to our scooters by some.  har!  spyder

 >:( :confused5:  CVOwner:  I agree with you on the seat.  I have the 105th Anniversary FLHTCUSE3 and I feel like I am sitting on a stadium seat.  Can't take much longer than about 45 minutes and have to get off and get circulation back in my cheeks.  I have ordered a custom seat from: www.hartcoseats.com.  I was busted up pretty bad four years ago when hit from the rear by a drunk driver doing over 70MPH.  I was doing 40 and it was night on a two lane road.  I was the only one of three bike accidents that night that survived.  Anyhow the seat should arrive any day now.  Will now be able to make the ride to Milwaukee in August in style.  You might want to give them a call and talk to Mark - he owns the joint.  Does great work.   :2vrolijk_21:  :drink:

Hi ..... I was checking out you 05 FLHTCSE2 and wondered what the passenger backrest on the tour pack part number was ?  Also was it a big deal installing the lights in the tour pak wiring wise ?  I want to do the same to my 04 SEEG.
You don't happen to have the wiring part numbers I could get from you ?

Thanks

Joel

52435-05 for the backrest.  That is complete with the mounting bracketry.

When you say "lights in the tour pak" if you mean the interior lights to see inside the pak the best thing to use is accessory kit 54331-04.  That kit is an LED replacement for the commonly defective stock tour pak interior light and adds lights on the bottom of the tour pak on each side that shine down in to saddlebags.  The installation isn't a difficult one.

If instead you're speaking to the spoiler with LED brake light that is commonly added on the tour paks that part number varies with color.
