09 CVO Touring Air Suspension- Same as non-cvo?
« on: April 10, 2009, 11:52:10 AM »

I am wondering if MoCo has upgraded the airshock on the 09's, or used the same air shock from the standard touring non cvo bikes on the touring CVO's?

On the RG vs SERG There is a 60 pound weight difference- and when comparing to the 08 non cvo, to  the 09 CVO there is a 90 pound difference.

09 RG
783.0 lbs. dry
820.0 lbs. running order

09 SERG
846.90 lbs. dry
880.60 lbs. running order

08 RG
752.0 lbs.
789.0 lbs

The SERG parts catalogue lists the rear shocks as Part # 54662-09 (SHOCK ABS,RR/LOW HEIGHT ).  This seems to indicate it is not the same as the RG.  The book says it includes # 54320-07 but I could not find a reference for this part.  Anyone know?

Try comparing the # 54662-09 to the stock bike to be sure.

Thanks Greg- I think the SERG is different from std RG- SERG has got 12" inch vs 13" I was really trying to figure out if the factory put lower capacity shocks on these heavier models.  The ride quality is pretty poor - every seam in the road telegraphs my a$$l. Finally I 've just decided to chit can the air shocks and buy a set of Progressive 440s.

I have had mounted the 11.5" heavy duty progressives - Awful , put them out after the first ride with BSR ( 87 kg + 53 kg = 140 kg total , should not be too much ) , but bottoming very very often and ugly rumble and vibrations , extremely when opening the throttle and coming out of a curve .
For the first i put in the stock 12" air-shocks back again - mucho better than the progressives - save your bucks .
Whe thinking about changing the shocks then take the best : http://www.wilbers.de/index.php
or bitubos ( but i have no experiences with )

Surprised to hear that about the 440's-  but the 11.5 inch will have .5" less travel than the 12" which is what comes on the SERG.  How much time did you spend playing with the pre-load adjustments?

Everyones been  talking about Bitubos- and since you are in Germany- could easily get from Italy directly (I would imagine).

I switched them on the most heavy adjustment and they bottomed two up , and we both are not the heaviest persons i guess .
i do not find any fitting shocks on the bitubos-internetsite , it`s confusing to me .
But the wilbers should be the creme de la creme . / i heard several times especially from heavy Rod-drivers .
