I would do a 103 or a 113. The 110 is OUT!!!!! If you want to build something that will run good and be bullet proof do yourself a favor and do the 103! It really doesn't get any better.

Good price in fact!

I wondered where the crack was (my original 110 had a crack too, but on the filter housing seam.)

Again, I would strongly recommend you not do a 110 vs. the other options available to you.   If you have to cut the cases go with a 113 over the 110.   If you prefer not to cut the cases go with a  103 hd kit or an off the shelf 107 kit.   Your bike and your money, but I still wouldnt do a 110.   Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

TWO for this vote. Do not do the 110 you will regret it in the long run. I PROMISE! Also while the motor is down do the left side timken bearing conversion. This is a must.

Well lets see my first motor was torn down 5 times and finally i paid on my own to try and fix it.   Thus far this new 09 I love the ride, handling and can not get rid of the vibrations in the bike and it is now infront of the Area rep.   My 103's have run Fantastic, My 124 has run fantastic, only motor I have had issues with is the 110.   I ride nearly every weekend with at least 3 other 110 SE Riders 07, 07, 08, 09 (mine)  Everyone but myself has had the engine replaced, hence my advice to you.   Definitely 103, 113, but i would not bore the cases and do a 110 if I bored the cases it would be a 113,117, 124 motor.   The 04' 103 runs fantastic it makes 117/115 and starts every time we take it out with 56k miles on it.   The 05' 103"  i totaled had 30 something K on it and ran fabulously.  My current 05 with 16k no issues.

That is why I am making the suggestions I am too you.

so you are having problem with 09 110 i understand  and would like to thank you for sharing your information with me
so your motor was assembled in the factory  do you think there is a difference between assembling parts in a factory and building a engine in a shop where your rep is on the line
now we both know that there are a lot of 110 after market build ed  with and with out issues like you are having
i understand  if i spend 35k plus it best be right and yours is not for sure only if hd would hear you and take care of it
thanks Gabe ;D ;D

Gabe,

I believe there are several short comings with the 110's and had hoped that the 09 would deliver a problem free motor.   In the Harley form whether built by hand in front of you or at the MoCo, I do not believe you can get a bike that is not going to be plagued at some point with issues.   Whether it be cylinder related, piston skirt related, crank / runout related, or heat related.   We still havent touched on flyby wire, or clamping force of the heads to the cylinders or the valve train or the cam that delivers 220 cranking compression in a supposed to be 9.3 to 1 engine in reality from most of the checks is closer to 9.7 to 1.   The aftermarket can use a cam that lowers the cranking compression and cools the motor, juggs with larger fins for cooling a better piston and heads that have viton seals etc.   So I wouldnt even consider having them build it or upgrade it as a 110.  If you were to use Axtell juggs with say the Harley 10.5 to 1 piston made by Mahle and a cam that had some reduction in cranking compression as well as having the heads gone through by a qualified pro, you might be happy with the results, but using the stock kit from Harley I just wouldn't do it.   If your cases are being replaced before you put the motor back together I would definitely recommend a timken conversion and having your crank pinned / welded or getting a crank from someone like S&S with Timken conversion.

Best of luck look forward to hearing how you approach your rebuild.

I have seen too many 110's with problems, even the bolt on ones.

If they are replacing your cases, and you are going to spend them money to have the cases bored......go 113. It is a great reliable, performance motor. Balance the crank, Timkin bearing, S&S 625 cams....125/125 and reliable

The 103 would not be real viable with the 2.08" 95cc heads. 113 is a winner and ordering the .005" OS pistons and torque plate honeing the cylinders to size at a conservative clearance is even better.
