Gasket weeping
« on: October 04, 2005, 03:50:31 PM »

Has anyone experienced weeping at the gasket between the engine case and the transmission. I have 1500 miles on my 06 SE Ultra and the gasket has been weeping since the 500 mile time frame. I can wipe it off the cases with soap and water, but the next ride brings it's right back. I hate to take it in to the dealer and leave it for a week or better. It may have occurred on my 02 Ultra, but with the  black engine it never showed up. It is annoying to spend this much money and have that nasty black stripe on the engine.

From what's been discussed before it seems several if not most of them do it.  Some a bit more than others.  But it's a common nuisance.

Brought me 05 SEEG in for a broken motor mount and was informed that I was leaking on the inner primary as well.  They replaced the gaskets, so we'll see...

Just got back from the dealer on this item. Basically said too bad, there are no fluids in that area, likely packing grease as there is no gasket between the two cases. Just keep wiping it away and MAYBE it will go away. What a BS answer.
I'll be contacting the MoCo to see what they say.

I contacted 2 dealers about mine, they both said that since it is only a "weep" and not a leaking gasket that HD would not cover it.  Go figure [smiley=confused5.gif]

h2oman,
This is common on bikes (at least 103's and probably twin cams) with satin motors. I too asked when I first noticed the weeping on mines, and was told same thing. "No fluids in that area, it's common to all bikes, you probably didn't notice it on your black motor". If there isn't a gasket there, and there isn't any fluid there my question is where is this fluid/weeping coming from, and if it weeps then there should be a gasket. More reason for me to have a black engine (the MoCo does have the 103 in black), at least they could offer this option.

I noticed the same weep (oil/grease/?) shortly after I picked up my SEEG2.  After washing the bike 3 or 4 times, using S100 on the engine and concentrating on the engine/trans joint, the "weeping" seems to be almost eliminated.  Since there is no gasket at this joint, and the only source of oil even close is the fittings for the oil lines to and from the oil pan, I have scratched my head more than once trying to figure out where this stuff comes from.  I guess this will go down as one more mystery, like the Bermuda Triangle.

Some of their cra.... um... stuff they've got pictured both item-only and on a bike.  But not this one.  Maybe it's just too new for them.  Fortunately my weep isn't too bad.  I'm not going to fuss with it.  Just saw it and put it up here since it was brand new and might not have been noticed yet.
