Rubber cap on clutch cover
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:13:31 AM »

Question, I have a 2008 CVO Springer. There is a small rubber cap that was on my clutch cover. The cap looked like it was on a small brether vent? Either way I rode the bike last night and the cover was lost. Did I cuase any damge? I dont see any fluid drips or leaks ?

That is for the hydraulic bleeder nipple. Just go to any auto parts store and pick one up.

That fitting is the bleeder valve for the hydraulic fluid, and the rubber cap is there just to keep trash out of the hole.  It's the same sort of thing you will find on the brake calipers for bleeding the brakes, and while it's not a bad idea to keep the caps on it isn't absolutely necessary.  You didn't cause any damage.  BTW, this has been a common problem with the hydraulic clutch bleeder caps, lots of folks have had them come off.  If you get a replacement from your dealer or elsewhere, clean all traces of fluid off the metal before installing it.  The fluid acts like a lubricant and makes it very easy to knock the cap loose.

Just one little, teeny, tiny caveat.  Might help keep it in place if you give it a quick 5 second shot of 200 degree air from a Weller heat gun.  That's what I did.  Shrunk it up just enuff to make it tight as a virgin.
