Rain jacket, mesh jacket, leather jacket. Depending where you are and at what time you might find yourself needing these all in the same day.

Find one that does all 3. :2vrolijk_21:

Leather is always right. Be prepared for rain, hail, snow (even in July), monsoons, lightning, tornado's, sand storms...hey, be prepared for everything on that route. Most of all be prepared for the time of your life.  :2virology_21:  Doc

John when you get into SW MO on RT 66 give me a call. We can hook up for a bite to eat and a quick pint! If you haven't made any stopping plans yet, Springfield, MO has some good attractions. I will PM you my Cell and E-mail addy.

My wife and I did 66 last summer from Chicago down through New Mexico and then up to Santa FE for 4 days, headed north to Colorado for some mountain riding for a couple of days and back home through the corn belt. 3300 miles in 13 days.

Rain gear for sure, we had a hot ride with temps from 55 up to 105. We both have HD "H20 Hydration"jackets. they work great for summer riding and you can soak liners in water and they last a half a day keeping you cooler while still offering some protection. they are light weight but durable.

Have a great ride.

I did the route 66 last year in June. We had not a drop of rain whole the 20 days but temperature in the high 90s, sandstorm and two colder days in Williams. I think the best bike would be an ultra (of course) or a road glide.
It was the best trip in my life. I wish you "rubber side down and chrome side up".
