Xe5R HID Headlamp
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:45:32 PM »

Well, after trying to fit a couple of the upgrade kits that were guarantied to fit the stock bucket, and failed by a long shot, I finally stopped waisting my time, and bit the bullet. I got a sweet deal at the J&P 30th Open House this weekend, and the Kuryakyn folks installed it for free to boot. Don't have pics yet, but I was a bit shocked when they were done and I saw how big this bad boy is. Where the stocker only stuck out an inch or so from the detachable SS windscreen, this thing is at least 5 or so inches I'd say. Looks cool, but definitely big.

I did however get a chance to try it out at night, and OMG, this thing is remarkable. Where you could easily over drive the stocker at anything over ~50mph, I'm not sure that's going to be an issue anymore at sane speeds. From their charts, they say the stock highbeam is about the same as the HID low beam, and the HID highbeam provides twice the distance and width as the stock highbeam. From what I can see, I believe this completely. Makes a hell of a difference. I just couldn't fathom 2 of these things in a RoadGlide.

I'll try to post some pics soon.

Looks wicked as h***. Wondering if the HID electronics would fit into the headlight on Kandy's Deuce. It's an 8" housing but I'm not sure what it looks like inside.

I'm not sure. There is a welded plate in there to mount the ballast so that might present an issue. Also, the headlamp assemby is pretty darn big so unless you know it will fit for sure, it'll definitely be a gamble. Also, the complete kit (with disount) is much cheaper than buying the headlamp assembly and the bucket separately, so that's something to think about as well.

Question-Does the windscreen still fit around this big bucket? If so, do you had a pic of that configuration?

Hi Ted, yes the windshield still fits fine. I don't have a pic with the windshield, but I'll try to take one for you. The only difference is, the headlamp stick out much further forward.

Thanks Ted. Yes sir, it's about 4 inches longer, and perhaps an inch bigger in diameter, but it doesn't look out of proportion. Actually without the windshield, it give it a nice custom look.  However, even if this thing was butt ugly, it would be hard for me to give up the performance. The light this thing gives out is amazing. I'm never going back.

Wow, it looks really cool.  I've been disappointed with my headlamp on my 2003 Wide Glide, so I've been looking for a new headlight and I think I just found one.  It sure is big but it looks cool.  Great Bike....
