I guess my bike is different from all the rest.

At 70-75 I can hear it but I wouldn't say it is great. If I have a full face on I usually don't bother listening.

I have the HW speakers in the lowers, same speakers that are in the fairing. They sound completely different - as different as HW compared to stock speakers.

The lower speakers sound "dead" and offer no improvement to listening. I would not recommend them.

They do so little to help I am considering removing them and getting back the glove box space.

Yeah, that add'l. space is very 'handy'......to me, at least. (I tend to keep my 'snacks' in there along w/ everything else that'll fit.)  har.  :drink: spyder

Either way, if you're considering an amp upgrade you should also consider a pre-amp output installation. Pre-amp out will get a much cleaner signal into the amp, reducing distortion and allowing the amp to function better. Contact whatever amp company you decide to go with and get their opinion on line out vs. preamp out. If pre-amp is something you think you would benefit from contact Iron Cross Audio. We can install a 2 or 4 channel preamp RCA outputs into your stock HK radio.

my .02 replace it all ! hog wired is obviously better ! but as long as that factory radio is there you will never get all you can out of the amps. dirty siginal, dirty music ! the more you turn any source up the more it distorts but you can replace the radio, speakers and amp for  just a little more and have all you want ! :2vrolijk_21:

thinking that a little further out.....if you dont want to loose some of the features that the factory radio provides I would do Hog wired. for me on my roadglide I didnt have rear radio controls, weather band or a CB to consider.  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I'm running Hog Tunes in my '09 Road Glide and very disappointed.  So much distortion.  Highway speeds forget it - not near enough clear volume.

You're saying your pre-amp will fix it?

Low level signals that are amplified are much better than an amplified signal being sent to an amplifier to be amplified again. The source is where it all begins and if that is the cleanest possible (read low level pre-amp) then the final sound will be better.

Anyone with a HK radio that is running a Hawg-wired amp will benefit from the modification that Iron Cross is offering.

@ Iron Cross; what is the cost of doing this mod and can you do it on the Radio Sound units?

We're doing it for $80 for 2 channel, $115 for 4 channel ($55 and $80 if done in conjunction with a repair) We have not yet done it to the RSI unit, but cant see why it could not be done.
